read it this morning in the times pic. seems the guy is a habitual jackass, with outstanding warrants for traffic violations and failure to appear in court. Let's hope they nail this a****** good and try to redeem our hospitable reputation.
Ironically, they said he was arrested at his brother's home in Houma, while studying for a captain's license. Imagine this guy with a captain's license.
Obviously, if he has outstanding traffice violations, what business does he have b****ing about someone in a boat, when it seems he can't behave himself in his car or truck?
Remember the name: DALE SILBERNAGEL
Can't wait to see a picture, I bet he has a mullet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here's the story, from wwl tv's website: I think they spelled his name wrong, it was Silbernagel in the newspaper:
Man accused of shooting at Bassmaster's contestant arrested 06:16 PM CDT on Thursday, August 14, 2003
Associated Press
BELLE CHASSE, La. -- A man accused of shooting at the second-place finisher at the Bassmaster Classic tournament was arrested on Thursday, authorities said.
Dale J. Filbernagel, 45, of Venice was accused of shooting at Gary Klein on Aug. 3. Klein told authorities that a shirtless man fired what looked like a shotgun at his boat as he passed about 60 or 70 yards from a dock near the Camp Canal in Venice.
Filbernagel was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and illegal discharge of a firearm, said Maj. John Marie, a spokesman for the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.
Filbernagel was arrested at his brother's home in Houma, where he was taking classes to get a captain's license, Marie said.
Plaquemines officials have speculated that Filbernagel shot over Klein's boat after the pro angler opened up the engine on his boat and sped off down the canal.
Many camp owners get upset at boaters who go too fast and create wakes.
"I'm sure he will claim it was a warning shot," said Sheriff I.F. "Jiff" Hingle about Filbernagel. "We don't want people to take the law into their hands. We wouldn't expect a citizen in a subdivision to shoot at someone speeding down their street."
He said that if people are upset at boats speeding they need to report the boats to authorities. Officials said the stretch of canal where the alleged shooting occurred was not a no wake zone.
Klein has said he would press charges.
An ESPN camera crew was with Klein and filmed the suspect on a return trip.
In the video tapes, which were released to the public on Thursday, Filbernagel is seen waving Klein past his camp after the pro angler slowed down, Marie said.
Klein, 45, of Weatherford, Texas, earned $50,000 for finishing second in the tournament.

I hope this guy don't have a family I would hate to see kids and wife hurt because an idiot wants to prove a point. But he's got away with it for too long and I hope he don't see the light of day for a number fo years.
Also with most DA's propensity for plea bargaining he could very well get off with probation. We just have to hope all the other problems he's had with the law will add up with this so he gets a few years in the poky.
Maybe this will help with the reputation of Louisiana.

| I too have little faith in the justice system, but I spent Friday and Saturday at a friend's camp on Grand Bayou and noticed boats were much more courteous than I have seen in the past. Maybe, this incident has awoken some to the damage that they can do when they throw wakes near Camps.
Just my opinion

I looked into my crystal ball the other day. This is what I saw.
Klien won't want to answer the five subpeona's he'll get on this case. The DA will offer Doodiehead a deal. Doodiehead will take the deal. He'll plead guilty to a misdemeanor simple assault, get a suspended sentence, pay a fine, be placed on supervised probation for a year or two and we'll all live happily ever after.
The other scenario my crystal ball showed me was that Doodiehead is going to jump bail and hide in the marsh for a year while the fevor dies down to a distant memory. When he finally gets picked up for beating his girlfriend next year the Judge ill slaphim harder for the fsailure to appear than he'll slap him for the shooting incident.
Any bets?

Go ahead Dude! You're Fame is expanding beyond the boards. Sonn you'll be more than just a speed bump on the internet.
I don't get the Pic. Can you paste it here?
Doodiehead's outboard is a 5HP Mercurmada (Mercury+Yamaha+Honda). It was pieced together from stolen the parts from patrol boats owned by the PPSO.

It has been quiet lately but does anyone know what ever happened to MR.SHOOTER from the Bassmaster Classic. Is he in jail or still popping shots???? They seem to have dropped the subject.

Read on the La. Sportsman web site that the prosecutor has rejected charges against a man who is accused of fireing over a boat during the Classic last year. They dropped the charges because of limited physical evidence and the fact that the lone witness -Klein- lives in Texas. The D.A. said "I'm not sure we could prove it". Where else but in Louisiana could something like this happen.

Ringeaux, hope you don't think I'm defending this joker, I'm ticked off( to put it mildly) because he isn't doing time and paying for that shot. Just letting the folks know that he is set free. It's people like that, that gets away with illegal use of a firearm , then the goverment wants gun control to take my gun away from me and you.

Lone witness??? I thought there was a cmaera man with him.
So typical. Plaquemines Parish, and MANY other parishes have reputations for not properly prosecuting outlaws. Poor guys at dwf get banged from both ends. The public says they're not doing their job and then when they do it the "system" rejects their efforts.
Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking. *h. jackson browne* |

As La. Sportsman magazine says this month, we have seen our last Bassmaster in Louisiana. Can't say that I blame them. Louisiana really is doing a lot to show the rest of the country that we aren't as backwards as they think.
