after some reading and researching i am disconnecting my oil pump on a 1995 225 evinrude so i can mix the oil and gas myself (i have read these particular models are prone to problems). is 50:1 the correct mixture and what are some thoughts on doing away with the oil injection component. thanks

50 to 1 is sorta an industry standard, but some engines take less. check with evinrude to be sure. i have known a number of folks who have disconnected the oil injection system and have done fine. make sure you get all of the gas out of the fuel tank first. then refill it with the mixed gas.one problem that have been associated with disabling the vro and mixing your own include the fouling of spark plugs due to too much oil in the gas. so keep an extra set of plugs and a plug wrench on board. also drain your carb bowls if you are not going to use the boat for an extended period of time.

remember we did not inherit these resources from our parents, we are merely borrowing them from our children
