We spent millions (billions?) building diversions to help replace sediments that the levees steal from us. The oystermen, understandably pushed for the diversions not to be used much. Erosion continued.

Along comes BP and the horrific leak. Diversions, for the first time ever, were opened and allowed to run at full capacity. Many oyster beds are now dead and I'm sure the oystermen will eventually collect a pay day from BP.

I wonder... should the state require that the oystermen relocate. Now is as good a chance as we'll probably ever have. Should the state cancel leases and only lease in new areas that aren't likely to be affected by future openings of the diversions? Should we "seize the day?"

Thoughts?

Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking.
