This past weekend, we went out fishing. I have a 1985 Merc 6 cyl 90 HP. We went 50.2 miles per the gps, and I burned 12 gallons of fuel - a little more than 4 mpg. I was pleasantly surprised. Past estimates, admittedly inaccurate before my GPS, had it at 2.5, which I thought was decent. Just curious, is 4 mpg very good, good, or not so good?

not sure,, I have a four stroke 140 which avg around 4 miles per gallon but I run the boat hard wide open most of the time 5500 to 6000 rpm.. it all depends on the condition you ran your boat. at trolling speed less than 4 knots, I am getting over 12 miles per gallon.. it hard to do a calculation unless you get a floscan device ( GPM) which you can then calculation different rpm setting to gps nautical miles..you then make your own table of setting to determine your boats range. 4 mpg is a good number, but I normally do not worry about mileage since I have a 42 gallon tank
