I thought the tank in my 22'6 was plastic. I remember seeing numerous plastic tanks around the shop last year when boats were being built. I'll check mine later. I know I had numerous issues with the aluminum tank in my 18'6 with the sending unit cooroding.

Anthony...I know that the tank in my 226 was a plastic type tank and that John liked that material for the fuel tanks. There was some issue with the shape or size of the 90 gal tank in the 252(( because they were all aluminum) but I had not heard if they stayed with the aluminum on the 252 or went with a custom molded plastic. I`m going to discuss the option of 2 60 gal plastic tanks or the standard 90 gal aluminum in my new 252. Maybe there would be an option, but just haven`t had the time to discuss this with him. Good luck with the fish doen there guys, hope it is cooler there than here! doc

Made it over to the Avenger Shop, yesterday-Thursday. Spoke to John about the type of fuel tanks he uses....I WAS DEFINITELY WAY WRONG!!! He said that he has used ONLY plastic-composite fuel tanks since 1995 due to the higher possibility of condensation that is related to all metal, particularily aluminum fuel tanks.
DRREB contact "NOBOATBOB" about the 300 Suzuki 4-stroke...he said that he has a lot of info from a magazine and he would send a copy to you.
My dual consoles were out of the mold and in place for fiber-glassing yesterday. The gunnels were all cut, sanded smooth. John was ready to make the hatch/storage covers either today or Saturday. Things coming along faster without all of the interruptions. John Castelluccio, Jr.

Good deal about the boat John! Sounds like you are well on the way to a new boat. BTW, over the past several days I have read threads about skeeter, blazer bay, blue wave, fishmaster, and nautic star, along with several others. Why did we get a thread about a S. La boat deleted when all these other brands keep the threads up and running? I`m not asking to cause a squabble, just plain don1t understand the logic here. I enjoy talking and listening to points and counterpoints about all bay boats.....avenger included.

John C....is your new avenger going to have the new gunnel cap on it? What do you think of the new way to finish the gunnel? John said it would add only approx 130# to the wt and be a good place to step in and out, if needed.

one problem that we need to address with the aluminum trailers. my trailer floats in saltwater, no problem in freshwater but in saltwater my trailer will float. when you, krass and i launched my boat at breton sound marina a few weeks ago, no problem. i sure am glad that there was no one waiting to pick up while i loaded my boat!!! i think that you will have a larger problem with your trailer due to the fact it is a tandum axle trailer. now don't get me wrong, i still think that the aluminum trailer is the way to go, but we need to figure out a way to weight it down when retreiving our boats. also, what kind of tires are you going to get on the new trailer??? get radials for trailers. right now i am wishing that i had some more of that french bread you brought. i will be fishing buras in september and you are certainly welcome to come, it will be from september 16 through the 21st. ed mcintyre

Ed, maybe try getting scuba diving weights. They're made to put a strap/belt through. Strap 10 - 20 lbs (or whatever it would take to sink your trailer) on your frame when you back it down to pick up your boat.

John, I can assure you that the Sport Trail trailer does not float. Sport Trail has a new jig for the trailers. The bunks and cross members are all welded now. My trailer had to be re-jigged because at first the Avenger boats were to low and the fenders bottomed out. They re-jigged my traler updated the lights and the tongue jack for no charge. I even bought another spare rim and tire for much less that any price around here. The guys at Sport Trail are real were helpfull and stand behind the product.

I agree with Anthony. You won't have that problem with the Sport Trail. I think the reason the Sport Trail doesn't float is the torsion axles. They are heavy enough to keep the trailer down. Years ago when the springs rusted out on a Magic Tilt I had, I replaced the springs and axles with torsion axles. I noticed then that the trailer would no longer float easy. The Sport Trail that came with my 24 Triton doesn't float and it has aluminum wheels that make it even lighter. Even on the Magic Tilt when it had springs, it would only float if I backed it down too far. Leave the scuba gear off of it unless you plan to take it diving. |

TO ANTHONY & MUDFLAT: did you get the surge brakes with your Sport- Trail Trailers? If so, what type of material is the system made of? I saw the dramatic difference in the revised trailer that Charlie had (still pricewd the same) and remembering what my unused 2005 Sport-Trail trailer had, which was stolen right after the hurricane. Read somewhere that someone had an all stainless brake hardware system. Should be going to the Avenger Shop either tomorrow or Thursday. John Castelluccio, Jr.

No brakes on mine. Everyone talked me out of them due to the amount of maintenance and the fact that I back my boat down more now after the storm.

I spoke to Kevin at Sport-Trail today and upgraded my trailer to the all stainless system....$600 extra. Is Kodiak the stainless brand that they use as an upgrade...I forgot to ask the brand name?! John Castelluccio, Jr.

I know back in April Sport Trial stopped using the oil bath seals/hubs due to leaking issues. I (knock on wood) have had no problems so far. But, I wanted to let you all know that Tie Down has redesigned a new seal and they sent me 5 new seals as spares.

THIS IS FROM JOHN CASTELLUCCIO, JR.---Sport-Trail DID STOP using the oil-bath type of bearing lubrication. I believe they are using a high-end greased type of bearing hub! Do not have asscess to my computer this past week...moving into my house and have not set up yet. Using a friends' ("hooked")computer.

Yesterday, Thursday made it to the Avenger Shop. Both of the consoles were fiberglassed in position, the two in-console underneath storage shevels were being fitting for glassing. All of the storage compartment covers were completed, John was spraying insulation into the fish/storage compartments and making the below floor fitted battery box. By the end of next week, the final coating of webbing and paint should be sprayed and the custom Sport-Trail trailer will be ordered and delivered within three days. I guess, next will be the HPDI from Cypress Cove, Minn Kota trolling motor will then be mounted and wired along with the rest of the wiring for the electronics. Still shooting for the end of this month---hurricane(s) permitting.
The big 252 with green metal flake (Mr. Joe's boat) is coming along...the 55 gallon fuel tank was in place beneath the flooring. John Castelluccio, Jr.
