John-
You should be very proud of your rig. I have 2 questions on your trailer setup.
Where did you get that transom saver? Also the 2x6 runners on the trailer. How much leaway is there for the ribs on the boat to fit in to rest straight?
I have a different boat but simlar trailer setup and am having a little trouble getting the boat on the trailer centered. Have only tried couple of times and I fish by myself a lot. Miss the hoists.

I DEFINITELY AM VERY PROUD OF MY RIG. THANK YOU--
1. The transom saver was an old custom-made one John had at the shop, did a little fabricating on it to fit the custom Sport Trail Trailer; 2. The loading runners are all carpeted composite and fitted specifically for the Avenger hull design...drive on and boat centers itself. Have looked several times underneath and observed that there is about a half-inch on each runner side and the hull itself. I have never used a hoist due to none available. I always drive on and at some backdowns, you can't get close enough to the pier/ramp to get out of the boat---that is the reason I had the two aluminum "steps" welded onto the trailer below the winch. Easy getting out of boat from deck to trailer tongue...SEE ABOVE PHOTO. All of the little additives in/on the boat and trailer are from years of asking myself what if, how to make it easier, what about this, etc, etc...ALL OF THIS WORKS FOR ME.
Just giving reasons which may help someone out there to make it easier on themself...Sincerely, John Castelluccio, Jr.
PS...open invitation to all to ask any question(s), don't have all the answers, but will try and find out. Being on the water carefree is a pleasure and should be a very memorable experience-have to look out for ourselves A N D others. WE SHOULD WORK TOGETHER AND NOT AGAINST ONE ANOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael, the Avenger Shop is located in Chalmette, off the St. Bernard Hwy. in the old Kaiser Aluminum Complex-to the left on Marlin Drive. The shop phone is 504-277-4220. PS...John is by himself and seldom answers the shop phone, don't know if he returns messages left on the phone's recorder.
He said that he would be telephoning me this coming Sunday...anything you want to know from him??? John Castelluccio, Jr. 504-481-1344

John, It looks like you tow/store with the JP all the way up. I have avoided that thinking it would put more stress on it. No problem noticed?
Nice rig BTW! It's a shame my buddy and John had a falling out as he would be enjoying that 252 right now. He ordered it at the show on 05 and after waiting nearly 18 months with little progress he couldn't wait any longer.

Re: "JP" meaning jack plate!? Yes, I do tow my rig with the jackplate all the way up...no problem-it gives more clearance for the lower unit and the ground. Stored in the yard, 90% of the time, I lower the tilt&trim and the jackplate all the way down. Mainly for drainage of the motor after flushing.
I ordered (downpayment) my boat in April of 2005 and received it officially in October of 2006 which was 18 months. The wait was agonizing...I did have my older boat during that time, which sort of took the "edge" off.
Now, the fun part(s) from the "waiting period", is that I can view the 200+ pics of the boats' progress from the actual barrels of resin, rolls of cloth, fiberglass chopper-gun in use, etc...to the "second" it was lifted out of the mold, making the compartments, sanding, grinding, fitting, cutting, running wiring, screwing on bolts, driliing holes, installing pumps, lights, steering, unpackaging the motor, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc..... IT WAS A BUMPY ROAD TO SAY THE LEASE(?)
BUT NOW....IT WAS ALL WORTH THE WAIT!!!!
Can't say your friend made a mistake, BUT HE WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT HE IS MISSING ! John Castelluccio, Jr.

Actually it was to be the replacement for his 21ft Avenger he has had for at least ten years and still uses the hell out of. So he does know what he is missing. He would have been OK with the wait except there was no real progress being made on it. The hull had been sitting there untouched. You being around probably helped yours get built while his languished in the shop. In this case watching the kettle was probably a good thing for you!! You probably know more about his than he did! (if one was referred to as "Tom's" that was his)
If he doesn't find something he like this fall, he wants to look at the 23ft Frontier that is coming next spring. He likes mine and it is very surprising how similar his Avenger and my Frontier 210 are, except his Avenger is a little flatter bottom and mine rides a little better in the rough stuff. John's newer hull with a little deeper V and more deadrise is part of what he liked in the new one.
Why ain't we fishin' today?

The Avenger that Tom has was not a product of John Pabst...it probably was one that John helped/supervised being built by the Wagner's who then owned the Avenger trademark.
When John bought out the Wagner's, he took the old Avenger mold modified it closely to the Pathfinder Bayboat and added another modification, thus giving him the Avenger that he builds starting back some five years or more. He put his excperience and knowledge of racing hull design(s) into his finished products.
Unexpectedly, stopped by the shop today. John was there along with Mr. Joe. I helped them a little winching Mr. Joe's 252 onto a trailer to be brought to Lafitte within the next few days. That boat looked even more impressive when it was finally on a trailer. Mr. Joe and John came up with a "customized" Avenger decal which was on the boat.
Asked John about the blue and white 252, he said it was already sold.
Leaving for Lafitte very shortly, spending the night, will catch the remainder of the LSU game there and tomorrow making an all day fishing trip in that area. John Castelluccio, Jr.

Bayou, I ordered a 252 Avenger in 3/05, hull was started 6/05, when Katrina hit my hull was ready for interior paint, I was offered all my money back or could wait for John to finish 7/8 boats by himself, I waited. I took delivery in 5/06 and have to say that John did what he could, he added things, upgraded options, honored all prices and when the dealer told me 5 weeks to rig my hull, John rigged it for me. I'm glad I choose to wait, I got a great boat from a good guy. Sorry your buddy choose not to wait, it's hard to do, but I do know his hull sits at Avenger, full deck cap, triple livewells, 2 built in 200qt iceboxes, my buddy has tried to buy it a few times and can't convince John to sell it, but he'll keep trying cause he loves mine, maybe Drreb will get it, or maybe your buddy, since he never found/bought a new boat yet. | Billy, no one holds it against John for the long lead time. Everyone knows that he is doing the best he can with the circumstances. I will let Tom know that it's still there as he may still be interested. Maybe it could still happen as he still loves the product. |

Bayou, That could be considered faith or omen if he gets the Avenger after all this time, it's a sweet set-up and the new deck cap completely changes the 'rolled edge' look of the boat. what made the wait so bad after Katrina was that John choose to finish boats in the order of orginal purchase, which left hulls just sitting for months. that's why he offered to buy back/refund the money. then move that hull to the end of the line, like Toms is now. When your turn came up he worked on your hull, ask John C if his hull sat idle waiting for it's turn, it didn't take John P 18 months of work to built that 22 dualconsole, and I'll bet John C got abunch of goodies/help in the end at little/no cost, everybody got taken cared of in the end. Tell Tom good luck, lighting does strike twice, Billy

and john pabst had a couple of other setbacks after katrina, all of his tools were stolen, he had heart problems, and still managed to build boats!!! i just hope no one told him to get a haircut!! that would really sap his strength like delilia did to sampson!!! i need to go see the boy and see if he can still drink a cold beer!!! ed

John Pabst will be going to a Florida Boat Show this weekend and should be back sometime thereafter. Stated that he was looking into some "state of the art" equipment to assistant in the production of his boats.
No website as of now ...John Castelluccio, Jr

Shop is located in Chalmette, LA. It is in the old Kaiser Aluminum Complex off the St. Bernard Highway. Go down the main road to a "T"..this is Marlin Dr. Turn left, pass the guard shack (usually unmanned), about 50 feet-take a right until another "T". Old asphalt road...take a left and the shop is the second of the two on your right side. You will see a bunch of older boats both in front and on the left side of the shop. John Castelluccio, Jr.

Thanks, I was right there just didn't go past the guard shack. I figured it was where those older boats were.

I`m not totally sure I understand freddie`s post but I get the impression he is not happy. Having kmown the Pabst boys for 4 yrs, I still haven`t met, talked with, or really heard of anyone that recieved an avenger that wasn`t dealt with fairly. I`m going to bet that there is more to this story than has been heard.

I'll agree with Dreb... I brought my boat back after the storm with the water lines still on the walls. Yes, John is hard to track down. But, it's one of the things you deal with when you buy a product from a small business with limited resources...

I`m pretty sure that John does not have a computer in his business at this time, so putting your number on a forum board is not a good way to get him to contact you. I don`t know Kevin but if I was having problems, I would go and speak to the avenger people directly...not through an intermediary. The Pabst family has had a very tough year with John having bypass surg and Brother having lung cancer surgery all within a 3 month period. This is certainly not an excuse, but merely an attempt at a possible explaination for some of the delay. My advise again is to actually go to the shop and talk about your problem. These are honorable people and I`m sure they will try to fix your problem.
