The avenger shop is in the Chalmette(sp) port complex in the old Kaiser Aluminum building. They are still in busines(as of 15 min ago) and can be reached there daily.

AVENGER DOES NOT HAVE A COMPUTER NOR ACCESSIBILITY!!!
THE AVENGER SHOP is located in Chalmette, LA off the St. Bernard Hwy. by the Kaiser Aluminum smoke stack. Turn onto that road, continue until a stop sign (Marlin Dr.), turn left, and go past the guard's shack. Take the first right turn past the shack, go down that road maybe 500 feet and take a left at the "T". The Avenger Shop is the second building on your now rightside which is the riverside (South). John Castelluccio, Jr.
PS...I think, John Pabst has owned the Avenger Custom Bay Boat Company for maybe six years. As for any older boats produced by "AVENGER BOAT CO." prior to his ownership is NOT HIS RESPONSIBILITY (for warranty work, materials, repairs, etc...)-BUT HE DOES REPAIR WHAT HE CAN at a more than fair labor/material cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

freddie, I`m sorry you have had such a hard time getting your boats worked on, but I`m sure once you get in touch with John all will be OK. BTW, is that orange and white boat one that was bought at the sale after Katrina?

"but after all this time, I'll believe it when I see it!", If he drove to mississippi today to see you, without calling to see if your there, that must mean something. Billy

I`m sure John will do the right thing in Mr Sandrock`s case because he always does, but I`m still not sure all the story has been told here. It`s certainly not any of my business anyway but I`m glad they got together and talked about the situation. The Pabst boys are a class act and do exceptional work.

Let me start by saying that when "SOMEONE" is told that Avenger is out of business...very high probability the source of the rumor is a competitor.
THIS IS A 'FICTIONAL STORY'.... Now, once upon a time a FELLOW travels to "The East" to visit the Wizard who is the builder of custom cars. This FELLOW may have heard of the high quality and workmanship of the vehicle, which may have prompted him to make the trek...not really an issue.
This FELLOW orders his custom car with the optional bells & whistles. Now, while not promised a definitive date for delivery, this FELLOW takes his FRIEND to visit the Wizard to see his custom dream car being built. The FRIEND likes what he sees and immediately orders his custom car with his optional bells & whistles-but thereafter, the FRIEND orders a different type of seat than the FELLOW...all of this occurs within a very, very short period of time.
The Wizard now has to rub his crystal ball and locates (from a Wizard in the Land of the West),the different seat for the FRIEND. Now, after Wizard installs the different customized seat. The FELLOW visits the Wizard and wants the same kind of seat that his FRIEND has. The Wizard informs the FELLOW that it was actually a much more costly seat and would take some time for another to be produced from the other Wizard in the Land of the West. Additionally, the FELLOW wants a change for an additional cushioned-seat. both the FELLOW & the FRIEND received their customized cars, but the FELLOW was now awaiting his better customized seat (for no additional charge)!
Lo and Behold, a Great & Evil Wind comes to the Land of both Wizards. The Wizard in the Land of the West is able to re-establish but the Wizard in the Land of the East has many, many set-backs.
The Wizard from the Land of the East lost most of his kingdom, all of his elfs and is now singlarly trying to piece back his great kingdom but had to locate farther to the South.
MORAL OF THIS 'FICTIONAL STORY"...Great things comes to those who wait, even more time than they expected to---John Castelluccio, Jr.

John C., all that said John P. really missed the boat by not contacting folks that had boats ordered (with deposits paid) after the storm to update them. If you have no phone number, and a place of business out of order, and several thousand dollars of someone's money, you have a responsibility to contact them with an update. He didn't do this and I can personally tell you that is why my friend cancelled his - not the wait time, but he also felt he was being jerked around by not being able to contact someone that had nearly $10,000 of his money.
I realize he was in a tough situation, but we are only talking about making a few phone calls. I can tell you I would be pretty aggravated as well. |

Tiger, I lost my boat in the storm but it didn`t blow my home and business away, so I consider myself fortunate. I was able to stay in contact with avenger every few weeks(by hook or crook) and even drove to NO sveral times to see them. The avenger people are honorable people who would never take anyone`s deposit. Several people got their money back simply because there was no shop or equipment to make a boat early after the storm. Sorry your buddy didn`t want to wait and get a boat this year, but that just helps me get mine a bit sooner. John C...no new number, just Bro`s that we have always had and it even works on occasion.

Thanks Charlie.
John happened to telephoned me this past week, told him about what was being said. His response was for me to just blow it off and as soon as he gets a computer he will set the record(s) straight.
Definitely up and running with very little help...five days a week, but his hours vary due to doctors orders. Personally, I think he is pushing himself more than the doctor knows about. I offered to come help him a few hours for 2-3 days a week...he refused!
Sad when only one side of a situation is broadcast!!! John Castelluccio, Jr.

It seems like some are defensive when it comes to Avenger and that's great customer loyalty and says alot for them. I haven't heard anyone question their integrity or say anything disparaging about their product. just the difficulty in doing business with them since the storm. It also says alot about the fact that they take care of their existing customers ahead of their new orders.
I do however agree with Freddie, that if you are in business your customers should have a viable way to reach you and you should be able to give them an approximate schedule for completion. When I said someone felt like they were being jerked around, I may have given the impression that they thought he was trying to hold their money. THIS WAS DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE. Once he was able to find him he had no problem getting a refund. |

It sounds like the owner of Avenger is trying to take on too much himself. Its a shame to see someone with a great product and not be able to produce it. Has it been that hard to find help? Not really a issue at this point. I don't know the owner of Avenger myself but I have a friend that speaks highly of him and his father. I wish this thread would turn into (ideas on how to get a business up and going) I hope to see them grow and continue to build the first class custom bay boats they do. Sounds like this business needs sound management to take the great product ideas from the owner and then show the owner how to produce his product. Theres alot more to a successful business than just loyal customers and a great product.

Tiger, it`s not that I`m here to defend the avenger guys at all....they don`t really need it. I do, however, hate to see one side of a story being told that defames a person without any rebuttal offered at all. I have no idea how old you are or what life has thrown at you in the past, but things happen that are totally beyond one`s control. Storms that wipe out a life`s work, storms that destroy buildings that can`t be repaired, storms that wipe out all business records, heart attacks that require 5 vessel bypasses, Father`s that develop cancer and require surgery, and once in a while...all these things happen within a year or so of each other. I simply try to not judge a man until I walk in his shoes for a while. It`s easy to find fault with people and think all the solutions are simple....and that you could do much better. Situations in life are often much more complex than first meets the eye and even more difficult to solve when one is trying to do the right thing and be totally honest in all their business dealings. The avenger boys are solving some major problems that have arisen due to no fault of theirs, but once in a while, you might consider cutting a bit of slack for some really good people.

Doc, I haven't heard anyone here defame anyone. I don't think there is anyone here that doesn't wish John and his dad the absolute best. I admire that he is still trying to make things work when lord knows a lot of folks have chosen to pack it in. Freddie just seemed to be somewhat upset that he had no way to contact John. I spent alot of years as a service manager and I can tell you that customers can accept nearly anything except not being able to get a response, even if it's not the response they want.
I would also like to say that when I tried (unsuccessfully) to find his shop a couple of weeks ago, I simply wanted to meet the Pabst's. I have heard so much about them that I think they are folks I would like to know. I also have a perfectly good PC that I would be happy to give to John if he would like it ( I switched to Mac's and retired three PC's from my home). |

Tiger, I`m sure John would appreciate the PC offer and maybe John C could relay that to him in the next few days. Communication is the lifeline of good business, so I`ll agree that when it ceases business has a problem. The responses of the 2 states(MS and LA) to the damage caused by katrina were totally different, so probably freddie was back up and working long before the people in the lower 9th ward in Chalmette even had basic services, and many of them still live in a semi ghost town in areas. In MS, Barbour worked with government to get loans and business up and running again but in LA, especially Chalmette, no such help has ever materialized for the small businesses there. I`m sure you are aware of all this, so if you want to meet some good folks, read John C`s directions and go down to the avenger shop one day and say hi. You won`t be sad you did.

I`ll bet you get your problems solved quickly freddie. As I get older I tolerate frustration less and less, so with any luck yours is about to be gone!
Kim, I wouldn`t bet on an avenger at the boat show but you can never tell. There may be some good things happening at the avenger place soon and that could change things to a faster pace. Let`s all hope all good things come their way.
