REDFISH HUNGRY THIS FALL Yesterday I had the pleasure of guiding good friends and customers Lloyd Dickey and his buddies Mr Bill and Roland from the Houston area. We headed to the marshes in search of redfish with the wind blowing pretty good early this day. Thankfully we have protected areas to hide from the wind and have productive days on the water. The guys had a good day with the hard fighters putting limits of good ones on ice using fresh shrimp under popping corks. Two lost trout joined the party in the box as well. Many thanks again to Lloyd, Mr Bill, and Roland for their return business and for a great day on the water spent with friends and for their generosity! I look forward to their return!   IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK A TRIP WITH LAFITTE’S HARDEST WORKING, MOST PROFESSIONAL FISHING TEAM, GIVE US A CALL AT 504-689-2006 OR SEND AN EMAIL TO captainphil02@cox.net to GET YOUR CHARTER ON THE BOOKS. STILL CHASING REDFISH… The redfishing remains good here in Lafitte and the trout are making appearances for brief moments. Capt Mike Kennair and myself had the pleasure of guiding the Mullaly brothers on a recent trip. Tim and Sean joined us for 2 days of fishing. Capt Mikey handled day one and found some big reds that were schooled up in a main lake. The guys enjoyed sight-fishing for the big bruisers and watching them crush the gold spoons. They kept their limit of bulls along with some nice keepers and released several more bulls. I was up to bat for day 2 and found the reds stacked up on a rock weir for the Mullaly brothers who put a limit on ice in short order. The numbers were great and the fish were the perfect eating size. We covered some water after that and released several more fish for good measure. All in all it was 2 great days on the waters pent with good people and we look forward to future trips with these guys. Thanks again to Tim and Sean for supporting our service. COUPLE NICE DAYS ON THE WATER… The wind was blowing hard over the weekend but we managed to get our trips in and catch some fish, mainly reds. On Friday I had the pleasure of guiding good friends and customers Dr. John Everett and his buddy Mr David Martin from the Jackson, Tn area. We headed east that morning to look at different scenery but I must admit it wasn’t a good move. We had 7 or so reds in the box as lunch time approached so it was time to head to the west where the numbers of fish had been better. We fished a long stretch of broken marsh throwing fresh shrimp under popping corks and boated 4 reds until finding a grass bed that was a little more productive. H&H Cocahoes rigged on weedless jigs was the ticket to finishing off a limit of redfish for the boat. Thanks to Dr John and Mr David for their return business and for an enjoyable day on the water spent with good friends. We look forward to their return! On Saturday I had the pleasure of guiding Mr Bert Guillory and his wife Blanche who live here locally. The wind was howling pretty good out of the north as we left Nick’s Marina so we headed to protected pockets on the north side of the lakes west of Lafitte. The fish were hard headed due to the post frontal conditions and the high barometer but we caught one here and there. Hanging in there paid off as the bite was late as is normally the case on post frontal days. I think it takes a while for the fish to adjust to the changing barometric pressure. At the end of the day a nice limit of reds were on ice along with some bonus puppy drum. A great catch for a tough day for sure. Thanks again to Mr Bert and Ms Blanche for a great trip and we look forward to next time! WE HAVE BOATS OPEN DAILY RIGHT NOW SO GIVE US A CALL TO GET YOUR TRIP ON THE BOOKS. REDFISH BITING IN LAFITTE… First off I want to say that the folks in Texas and Florida are in our thoughts and prayers after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. We hope they are safe in their recovery efforts which look to be a long and hard road for them. We have been fortunate to have weather that has allowed us to get out and fish and actually enjoy some good catches. This past Wednesday and Thursday  Capts Beau Weber, Lane Zimmer, and myself had the pleasure of guiding 3 boats for good friend and customer Mr Frank Carey and his buddies Tom, Jason, Bobby, and Loren. The redfish cooperated for us as nice limits of fish were brought to the cleaning table both days. We fished mostly plastics and spoons in the main lakes to catch the reds. Many thanks again to Frank and all on the trip for 2 great days on the water spent with great friends. Can’t wait till next time buddy! WE HAVE OPENINGS DAILY RIGHT NOW AND ARE HAPPY TO TAKE CARE OF ANY OF YOUR GUIDING NEEDS. NICE DAY OF REDFISHING… This past Saturday I had the pleasure of guiding good friend and customer Mr Tim Austin and his buddies Steve, Trey, and Kevin. We were blessed with good weather though it was in question as hurricane Harvey was forming in the gulf. The people of Texas and Louisiana are in our prayers in the wake of this disaster for sure. We were also blessed with good fishing on this day, finding the right spot early for reds. The guys put a limit of good eating sized fish on ice in short order using fresh shrimp on the bottom. We headed off to look for trout but found only 3 keepers to put in the box. Looks like the transition is in full swing and the trout are on the move. It should be great when they show up next month on the inside. We headed back inside to look for drum and found 5 to add to the box using shrimp under corks. The guys had some fun releasing some more redfish to boot as well. All in all it was a great day on the water spent with good people. I look forward to the next one with this bunch! OPEN BOATS DAILY FOR AUGUST We are finally getting some relief from the daily rain and thunderstorms down here and Lafitte and the fishing is good. The redfish are still in the main lakes as water temps in the ponds remain too high. They will remain in the lakes until the weather begins to cool this fall. Here are a couple recent reports from this past week. CURT SHAEFFER’S TRIP This past Thursday Capt Mike Kennair and myself had the pleasure of guiding 2 boats for first time customer Mr Curt Shaeffer and his family. This group is from the state of Minnesota and wanted to do some redfishing while visiting New Orleans. Capt Mikey found the right pocket of fish early Thursday morning and caught 13 nice reds on spoons the first hour. He caught a fish here and there to finish their limit and added 4 nice drum to the box using shrimp under corks. The three young men on his boat had a great day on the water for sure! I had Mr Curt, Ms Megan, and Curt’s son on my boat and we ended the day with 17 redfish and a sheepshead for our efforts. We saw and were close to several schools of fish but they were not willing to play for us and weren’t interested in gold spoons or soft plastics. We headed to the marshes and caught most of our fish on fresh shrimp under corks. All on board had fun and enjoyed a day without rain which was a pleasure. Thanks again to Curt and all on the trip for supporting our service and for a great day on the Louisiana marsh. We look forward to their return! On Saturday we had the pleasure of guiding 4 boats for Mr Barry Davis and his brother Steve with Advanced Plumbing located around Birmingham Alabama. The redfish were hungry for us on this day and all boats caught a bunch of fish using everything from gold spoons to jigheads tipped with shrimp on the bottom. The guys were worn out from working 7 days a week and were in need of a break. A fishing trip was in order and I’m sure everyone left Lafitte renewed and ready to get at it again when they got home. A bunch of great eating redfish will be enjoyed at home by these guys as well. That is always a nice bonus. Many thanks again to Mr Barry and Mr Steve for supporting our service and for their return business. We can’t wait till the next one! WE HAVE OPENINGS DAILY RIGHT NOW AND CAN HANDLE LAST MINUTE REQUESTS FOR TRIPS WITH EASE. OPEN BOATS THRU FRIDAY We had another good day on the water down here in Lafitte. Yesterday I had the pleasure of guiding first time customers Howard Brooks and his wife Sarah who were spending some time in New Orleans. Redfish were on Mr Howard’s “bucket list” and I was hoping we could help him out. He fishes a good bit back home in New Jersey and enjoys fly fishing for freshwater trout around the country. The Howards are really nice people and it is always a pleasure to meet new friends. We started off west of Lafitte where we had done so well over the weekend but the fish had vacated those premises. We went into search mode and found a good school of fish with tails out of the water a mile or so away. Both Howard and Sarah hooked up several times on the bruisers throwing H&H gold spoons. Best part was releasing them to fight another day. We left in search of a few smaller fish needed for lunch at Voleo’s for the Howards. We ran to some shallow marsh to throw shrimp under corks to do something different and hopefully catch smaller reds and a puppy drum or 2 for their meal. The guys caught and released a bunch more large redfish, and kept a couple small keepers in the marsh. They also landed 5 puppy drum to boot on the bait. We returned to the dock with more than they needed for lunch and the Howards were nice enough to allow me to bring a few fillets home for dinner. Thanks again to Howard and Sarah for a great day on the water spent with new friends. I look forward to their return! WE HAVE OPENINGS THIS WEEK INCLUDING FRIDAY AND THE FISHING REMAINS EXCELLENT. PHIL ROBICHAUX CHARTERS LAFITTE REPORT… On Saturday Capt Lane Zimmer and myself had the pleasure of guiding good friend and customer Ben Runge with BASF and his customers for day 2 of their trip. We chased redfish again as we did on Friday but the challenge for us was the boat traffic which is much worse on Saturdays. Both boats did manage to catch good limits of redfish and some bonus fish but it was a little more work than on Friday. We caught our last couple fish on shrimp but that’s what it took so we did it. We fished the lakes west of Lafitte and some of the shallow marshes to escape the angling pressure. Thanks again to Ben and all of the guys on the trip for 2 great days on the water spent with good people and for their return business. We are already looking forward to next year! • E.N.E. wind 10-15 mph, calm where we fishing at wall blocked the wind, wind laid down in the evening
  • Over cast evening
  • Mild temps , real nice was it
  • Water level sill up
  • Water Temp 78F
  • Water clarity of a scale of 1-7 was a 6 plus, looked real good.
  • Tide coming in slowly, went slack later in the evening
  • Around 5:00 PM, tide stop, bait left, birds left, but Big Jim & Oneofthepack still at it, cast after cast we did all evening.
  • Had 4-5 boats fishing, had plenty going and coming, a lot of traffic in the area
  • Plenty of bait in the water

TECHNIQUE / STRATEGY:

    • Be safe
    • Have fun
    • Put some run time on Bay Flat Jr. & the Yamaha Nightmare Machine
    • This be me daily therapy for ALL me aliments
    • Gather Intel for future trips, and to share with fisherperson, (on rodnreel.com) to help assist them in their choice of areas to fish, lures to use and presentation of same to the elusive Silverwonders.
    • Not much fish caught, but learned a lot, water depth up to 18-19 feet, had a nice hole in the middle, nice drop offs on both sides of the channel. This area good to fish on an east or west wind, protected by wall on one side and shoreline on the other.
    • In the morning it looked like the boast where stacked up in the middle.
    • short ride from dockside boat launch, launch $8
  • Find a spot # with the five fundamentals / criteria of catching:

  •
  1. WIND AT YOUR BACK: ( Wind not a problem, had blockers on both sides of the channel)
  2. MOVING WATER: (Could have used a little more, water stopped moving around 5 PM)
  3. WATER CALRITY: (Best / perfect love the way it looked)
  4. HOLDING FISH: (Me know this right place, and they are there, just need to know the right time)

  1. PATIENTS: ( Fished for 3 plus hours, between the show the birds where putting on, and the beauty of me surroundings time went by too fast for me.)

Got a call Thursday from THE PERCH WHISPERER to confirm fishing trip for today. Fort pike at 6am, Oh YEAH, “want some perch from trip across the river”, YEP. Easy launch for a windy start and off to some protected marsh along the ICW. Always a good feeling when you have the skunk out the box before you even launch. First stop, BAM nice green trout and a throwback red. Easy technique, chunk and reel , made the black and chartreuse curly tail grub with gold spinner irresistible to green trout, reds and specks. Even though my preference would be specks, the green things have a great , bite and fight, (plus they taste good ),so that’s what we concentrated on. The longer we fished the windier it got and trolling motor operator called DONE. We had our bass limits by 8:30 and did catch and release and boxed some specks and a red till 11 or so. Water clarity unbelievably clean, we would watch the spinner coming back to the boat and when it disappeared it was because a fish had it in his mouth. Water temp 71 deg , tide falling, wind 10-15(seemed like) tide up some but much lower than last week. Finished the trip with 29 Green trout 12-15” 5 specks 12-15“ 1 keeper red 24” (5 throwback reds) PLUS previous days catch 35 perch 3 sacs 10-12” 2 cats Nighty night, going to Delacroix with ONEOFTHEPACK tomorrow.
