Fishing Delacroix

5043520377
Went Wednesday not the best of day’s to try just after the front. But the wind laid down so a friend and i went to give it a try. We launched out of Sweet Water my regular place when going to try Delacroix. When we launched one of the guy’s there told us a another boat just came in with their limit already it was a little after 8-am he said they were in Lake Robin.  Well I’m not sure where the guy went or if he had a limit or not but we tried to no avail. we ran to almost all the corners and sides of the lake without even a nibble.  Which completely changed my game plan for the day ended up trying some of the islands south of lake Couquille for red’s again no bites.  I’m thinking i just been had, fishermen never lie right ? Ran back across Bayou Terre Bouefs  in to the lake Campo area made our way back towards 4 horse stopping here and there nothing yet. Finally stopped in Little 4  and picked a few keepers and throwbacks at least it was something. Getting a little tired decided to start our way back to launch stopping along the way but no other taker’s. Made one more stop in shrimp lagoon in hopes of a red or two. But by then the water was to low for me to get where i needed to get. Although while trying to get in to the marsh i did pick a 14″ bass before giving in to the low water. Called it a day and headed for the launch fun trip with my friend Homer an avid fishermen. Oh yeah as usual we used plastic’s only ! Our reward for the day 9 decent Trout 1 bass 14″ 1 great time. Gary Fishaholic out but never down !

Fishing Saturday out of Sweetwater

5043520377
Ralph called me late Friday night about 9pm I know that’s late for me nowaday’s . Anyway we ended up going Saturday morning back to Delacroix launching out of Sweetwater. This time no bait on the boat live or dead and I had a chance to talk to Capt’ Jack he told me people have been catching plenty trout in Little Lake and Pointe Finney. But had to throwback most he said it was about 10 to 1 ratio of keeper’s.   Just as I was leaving the dock he told me to try Pumpkin Bay. Which I haven’t been out that way in a long time and it was a little run I figured it may not be as crowded. Once we got there I surveyed the area looking for something to tell me [try here]. The water was flat no wind at all and the sun was in full strength. Ran to a point with a little tide movement and began casting some jig’s under a cork. Picked up a couple small trout but no keeper’s and not even that many small ones to keep us interested.   Started bouncing around from island to island looking for something with little to show. Finally Ralph hooked up with a red and got him in a little on the big side 26″ but we kept him since we didn’t have anything in box yet. It was hot so I decided to put the top up man what a difference we needed that and so did Shadeaux. Kept moving around looking for bait or something to show where the fish were. I managed to pick up a couple keeper trout just over 12″ but that was it.   I decided we were going in the wrong direction so went old school and pulled out the map. I wasn’t that familiar with the area so the map helped my GPS is not that detailed. I found a pocket or it was supposed to be ended up being open through the back but it was shallow. Moved up wind yes it finally picked up a little breeze which was nice. Not to long and we began wrestling with some Red’s we even doubled up one time trying to decide who would get the net. Most were still on the big side for us but we haven’t caught that many in a while so we kept them for Ralph.   It was getting to that point where these two old men were just about ready to head in. So I told Ralph we could start back and try the ponds we regularly hit on the way. This ended up being a waste of time as the water there was dirty and we didn’t get a bite. I cranked up the big motor and told Ralph he had to drive back he needs the practice. Not wanting to get stuck I did help guide him but when you drive you usually remember more.   Lure of the day was spinner’s Ralph was using a inline Snagless Sally and I had the regular spinner with a #4 blade and lemon head with a hot pink trailer.   I tried Baby ones and some other crank bait’s but they just weren’t working or at least not where i tried them.   Catch 6 keeper red’s 22 to 26 1/2″ 2 keeper trout just over 12″ legal   Good fun trip with Ralph and Shadeaux   I attached a couple pic’s of one of the red’s but I neglected to get any other pic’s . When i got home I told Ralph I wanted to try to make 4 pm mass which I did. But that didn’t give me much time when we got back to the house.   TTYL Gary out

Sunday trip

5043520377
I had a full boat load yesterday It was my son Jessie and grandson Landon a friend from across the street Jeff and my regular fishing partner of course my dog Shadeaux. After launching the boat me and Shadeaux were waiting in the boat for the rest of the crew at first I didn’t understand what was taking them so long. Then discovered Jeff was buying live shrimp. I don’t fish bait so this was going to be a little different I don’t think you can do both at the same time. Or at least I can’t made a few stop’s and I tried to throw my lures but with all the cork’s with live shrimp that made it almost impossible for me to cast the way I like. No problem I just gave in and started helping my grandson Landon casting he had his own Ideas about where he wanted to fish so I helped him do just that. Everyone else were picking up a couple small trout and red’s on the live shrimp and finally caught a couple keeper Trout 1 keeper Red and 1 Bass. That was about it for the catch but the most fun and terror for Landon was in one of the little bayou’s there was a 5′ alligator that just didn’t want us fishing in there. He would go after every cork they threw out. Even managed to catch one cork only to destroy it and let it go then Jessie pretended to try to catch the alligator on side the boat which made Landon freak out and was the first time all day he wanted to leave. So we left the canal to the gator and made our way to the next spot. For the most part of the day we would stop and fish a while then have to leave so not to get caught by the next approaching rain fall. All in all it was a fun trip with my kids and Friend even though I might have been skunked the rest of the crew were able to reel in a couple fish even a couple keeper’s.   Lure of the day was the live shrimp yes i had live bait on board even though i didn’t use any I can certainly see why a lot of people won’t fish without them. Ended up doing more running around than actually fishing should have stayed closer to the launch. I heard a lot of boater’s did well in Little lake. Which is one of the places i didn’t even try OOOP’s my bad but with the live bait the rest of the crew at least caught a few fish.   Always a good day when fishing with friends and family. So good luck to all on your next trip!

Good rainy day fishing

Went yesterday although the weather really wasn’t that bad but you couldn’t really tell either. It was a toss up on whether go out further from the launch or not because it appeared it was going to get worse than it really did or was. We elected to put the top up and it was just in time the wind picked up a little harder and rain came in but we were able to run back to the launch before it hit us. We sat or stood in the boat and waited to see if it was going to stop which it did but not for long. Like I said it never got any worse but it was a light rain sprinkle the whole time, we went back to the Graveyard 3 minutes from the launch to see if we could stop this trip from being a shutout. Good thing we made another drift in the back and Ralph caught a 24″ red which we kept since we didn’t have anything else a little further down the bank and I hooked up with a bull 32″ which I finally got in the boat but it was to big to keep so I took a pic and released him back in the water .   Still another good day on the water with my Friend Ralph it’s been a while at least 6 weeks maybe longer since our last trip. So we had a lot to catch up on while fishing and the weather really wasn’t that bad we just didn’t know that was how it was going to stay. We could have gone further out but didn’t better safe than sorry is what we thought.   Have fun and enjoy every day God gives us.   Good luck to all on your next trip !

Test run

My boat has been sitting up for 5 or six weeks this is the longest ever since buying it in 02. Finally had a chance to go try out my new seat I launched out of Sweet Water and good thing I did. Even before putting the boat in the water I realized the engine battery was dead. I had Mr. Ronnie backing me down since it was just me and Shadeaux on this trip and he lent me the jump box to start the engine. I took a ride to Little lake and back to see if the battery would charge it didn’t but I stopped at the launch and Mr. Ronnie told me I could take the jump box with me. I was about to pick up the boat but since he gave me the box to take with me I decided to give it a try I ran non stop to the Point Ala Hache area about 15 miles. On my first stop i tried the battery and the motor still wouldn’t start on it’s own good thing i had the jump box. I started the motor and let it run the whole time I trolled along a island trying to catch a Red ended up catching one little rat red and threw him back this was with the big motor running as well the whole time. The water was dirty there so I tried a few spot’s where the water looked cleaner to no avail no hook up’s but did get a couple misses. Rain cloud’s were all around me so I put the top up ended up being a good idea since the rain did finally catch me. The top also helped out with the sun more than the rain the heat was getting to me and Shadeaux since I did get to try out my new seat which worked great by the way. I decided to head back and check a few spot’s along the way still didn’t catch anything could have been due to the big motor running the whole time. I just didn’t want to have to jump it anymore and din’t know how many it had left. All in all it was a nice boat ride with one of my best friend’s Shadeaux and we didn’t get stuck out on the water. Thanks to Mr. Ronnie at Sweet Water he even backed the trailer in to the water to pick us up when i got back. Where else can you get this kind of service.  Gary out for now but not down! Good luck to all on your next trip!
