Octoberfest in Venice !
Bob Riches (Baton Rouge) and Randy McCollum (Laf/Pensacola) fished on Friday, October 27, 2017 with Capt. Dan Dix of MLC Charters ! Another great day on the water with Capt. Dan.
Typically, we make a couple of trips in the fall for bull red action and lot’s of catch and release. We were surprised with the abundance of speckled trout in addition to plenty of redfish action.
We caught a lot of 2-2.5 lb. trout early in the morning downriver (Mississippi River) using a tandem chartreuse rig using the standard winter time technique of the lure hitting bottom and working the lures along the bottom. Pulling in 2 lb. trout two at a time is a blast ! After the trout, we went searching for redfish and caught the majority of redfish with dead shrimp under a popping cork, but some reds actually hit on a DOA. A few redfish popped lines and one redfish was caught on a barbless hook. Plenty of catch and release redfish action.
The morning started off great with a fish on the first cast. Later in the day, winds picked up from the south prior to the approach of an imminent cold front fast approaching but the fish were on all day.
Thanks to Capt. Dan Dix from MLC Charters for another great adventure in Venice.
