Wish I had better results to report but like a buddy always reminds me,”Dat’s why de call it fishing, not catching!” Started my T Funky pirogue bassing trip as per usual, with exception of tad earlier launch,5:50 am vs about 6:00 am and bass magnet musta gone South as nada at first stop(should not complain as two chunks fell victim to Yum Swim n Dinger-both at Sonny Miller Taxidermy)and think all told,I have pulled about 15 bass from one small spot in last few trips!!Tried brush hog and even Zoom Speed Worm in bass magnet but nada, headed S towards Beau Chene golf course and did boat and release smallish bass and missed what felt like decent fish, judging by way line was reacting.Managed to miss a few more on Speed Worm and tried Spro frog in thick patch of lilly pads, not too far from Beau Chene golf course and had decent fish hooked but in process of nabbing fish, braided line got entangled in lilly pad stalk and fish got off(woulda been first boated on frog-bad omen I later discovered!!).Not too long after, switched back over to Zoom Speed Worm and was tossing amongst cypress knees and line went beserk, not sure how my drag got loosened, but fish surfaced, spit hook and I could clearly see length and girth of fish and looked every bit of 5 plus lb chunk, woulda been new personal best!!!Saw group of older gents playing golf and one commented dat I must have ice chest fulla fish and told him about chunk dat I just missed and he made the infamous line about,”De one dat got away!” and I quicky replied,”Yep,but the two from about two weeks ago are at taxidermy studio!!”One of these days gonna wear Go Pro on cap but would be mighty boring with ton of dead footage, sandwiched in between losing chunk of possibly personal best stats!!Managed to boat and release two smallish bass and miss serious chunk(I know where he roams, gonna return soon)!!Long paddle from 3 Rivers Launch but awesome aerobic work-out,worth every bit of effort and did take nice photo of doe that only spooked when she heard some splashing!!!Chatted with neat couple at landing at 3 Rivers and showed them recent pics of chunks from basically their back yard!!!Might take very short hiatus and back again soon, seeking new personal best, know where he might be lurking!!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Just knew my lucky string on de T-Funky was in jeopardy as when I arrived at 3 Rivers Launch, water was high and muddy, predictable due to deluges NShore has been enduring.Hit typical bass magnet with not a nibble to show and finally landed smallish Kentucky bass that I quickly released and proceeded to miss two nice bass, miss two smallish Kentucky bass(wish someone would stage Kentucky bass only tourney-would be lotta fun and quite a challenge)and did some exploring N and W of 3 Rivers Launch.Met Don,Real Estate Appraiser,at fine River Club Landing and took few pics of Landing and awesome Sportsman Bay Boat, with big mammy-jammy 300 Yamaha on rear, what a beast of a fishing machine dat must be!!Headed back to launch with nothing in box but got in awesome aerobic work-out!!Loved Sportsman Show yesterday and can’t wait for Dec issue of LA Sportsman issue to come out!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Put last nice coat of spar varnish on my newer Chapman pirogue yesterday evening and was itching to head to T-Funky bass magnet and launched de Chapman a tad before 6:00 am and by about 6:05,had nice fish aboard(1.8 lbs)and much smaller one.Headed way S of 3 Rivers Launch,my favorite spot to launch my pirogue, to chase T-Funky chunks and must have had Lady Luck on my shoulders as biggest fish(2.06 on digital)barely hooked by the eye, thank God it did not break off and I wanted to take photo but was worried that fish would flop back in!!Ran into Steve,T-Funky regular, and showed him nice pics of last Friday’s very nice and productive bass haul and Steve was impressed. Will be nice to get fish back from Miller’s Taxidermy and will post pic of finished product.Did release two smallish Kentucky bass and lost nice largemouth probably in between the 2.06 and 1.8 fish!!!Might start wearing Go Pro on fishing hat!!!All fish readily inhaled Yum Swim n Dinger worms in black and sapphire!!Guy on another site asked me to post picture of fine Chapman pirogue and will attach pic here as wel.Too bad Chapman factory does not attach extra cypress strip like I did to strengthen the Achilles heel of most Chapmans with cypress factory gunwales!!Love me de T-Funky,loaded with chunks!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Not sure where the nice, cooperative reds went and possibly they got chased out by way too much fresh water.Launched Southfork early to take advantage of window of opportunity to fish ahead of predictable and consistent pm rainstorms and hit familiar and previously-productive well heads and PowerLine Pilings with little to show(big hardhead catfish and croaker, tiny, tiny)and chatted with 2 adults and young fellow in nice Express and told them about recent redfish hauls(not more than 2 weeks ago and even a month ago, pretty much to the day!).Did chat with two separate commercial crabbers, one caught nice crabs in muddy water out to about ten miles from shore, the other reported smallish crabs not too far from Williams Blvd Launch.Think serious influx of freshwater has Lake royally messed up(can see lures down to at least 5 ft)and those nice reds may have migrated a tad East, towards Pumping Station!Did catch few very small bass in Parish Line Canal and think I will focus efforts on NShore,T-Funky specifically,as I was on some hogs recently and love pirogue fishing and T-Funky seems to be getting prime,as far as bassing goes!!   Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Had decent window of opportunity to head back to spot where I had very nice haul of T Funky chunks this past Friday and met some very fine folks last night at Bass Pro’s Member Appreciation Event(picked up a few Zoom Brush Hogs,Yum Swim n Dingers,etc-chatted with folks and showed off pics from Friday’s haul).Could readily tell that today gonna be struggle with the dirty T Funky water and grinded it out and managed 4 decent bass,3 largemouths and 1 decent Kentucky bass(lost very fine Kentucky bass, probably close to 2 lbs)and missed at least 3,everything falling for Yum Swim n Dinger, black and sapphire!Tried a few different colors of Zoom Brush Hogs with nada to show and hit exact spot that produced great results Friday and had nada to show, except for what felt like decent-sized alligator gar.Did see fine 24 ft Blazer Bay,powered by beast of a motor,300 Suzuki,4-stroke,at fine camp that is typically rented by the week.Covered plenty of water and headed across Lake for afternoon client meeting, spending tonight in Kenner at my mom’s house, hope to nab some Parish Line Canal bass and maybe even some PowerLine Pilings reds, weather and water-conditions permitting!!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

T Funky Chunks Personal Best!! 7 14 17

Decided I wanted another crack at my favorite stretch of T-Funky and launched plenty early(was tad perturbed at Slab Daddy pole that somehow got tangled with bait caster-tough to see which way to un-twist line, especially for ole eyes like mine)!Started my typical routine of tossing Zoom Speed Worms, black and sapphire(ran out of my Yum Swim n Dingers yesterday, also black and sapphire)and first fish to inhale Zoom was solid fish that I field guestimated to be close to 5 bs(at home on digital-4.6 lbs)and second fish, shade smaller, field guestimated at 3.5(at home on digital-3.2lbs)!!!Caught one more at bass magnet and made my way S of 3 Rivers Launch and showed off chunks to fellows spending week at luxury camp on T-Funk(they had pleasure boat with 115 E-tech and owner raving about his choice of engine). They commented that they had yet to see anyone land a fish on T-Funk!!Not too much later, met cool Cajun,Danny,in fine Ranger, also with E-Tech,and he likewise was raving bout his E-Tech.He and I exchanged tips and spots and he had 8 bass boated and I was stuck on 6,never did get solid hook-set on any more and he was kind enough to toss me a brush hog, chartreuse, with plenty of Garlic Spike-It on tail(could smell dat lure from a mile away).I only seemed to attract attention of knot-head bass with dat brush hog and when Danny and I last crossed paths,he had his 10-fish limit.Might have to put one of his tips to de test-when ya fish a stretch and get nada,go back and use creature bait, like brush hog, assuming ya tossed some other soft plastic on first go-round(I typically stick with one color, black and sapphire as it seems to work)!!Got home after sending bunch of texts and received tons of compliments, thanks to buddies dat replied!!!Wanting to preserve personal best and second chunk,Wifey suggested I contact Lake Pontchartrain Veteran,Dr.Robert Weiss, and he suggested I call Gus’s in Slidell.Made dat call and they suggested Sonny Miller’s Taxidermy in Crossroads,MS and the nice speck in Gus’s,compliments of Dr.Weiss, was all de advertisement and endorsement I needed.Wifey and I made nice lil road trip and met Sonny, quite the character, and he no doubt will do an incredible job.My first inclination was to contact Kevin Hynes, who did a world-class job on trophy black duck I shot about two duck seasons ago-he no longer mounts fish and was reluctant to offer a recommendation. Can’t wait to see finished product and will have both chunks mounted on nice piece of driftwood!!Gonna give favorite spot a chance to re-charge and have been blessed last few days, catching a personal best today and 11 fine bass in two days with about 7 coming from one nice stretch!!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Been itching to get after some T-Funk chunks and had excellent window of opportunity this am,launched de Chapman pirogue at 3 Rivers Road Launch around 6:00 am and almost immediately had 4 bass hooked, boated 3 and at the first bass magnet, they seemed to shut down,so I made a leisurely and deliberate paddle South, tossing Yum Swim n Dinger worms, black and blue(dey can’t resist dat worm!!).Was working worm back to pirogue and spotted skinny bass chasing, then inhaling worm and when I set hook, bass musta pulled it completely off Owner hook(doggone it-my last black/blue Yum Swim n Dinger)or so I thought!!Put on another color Yum and was working it and looked where I had hooked fish and lo and behold,Yum floated back to top-great news-got another chance with last Yum in black/blue!!Ran into regular on T-Funky and we exchanged tips and spots and I nabbed bass #4 tossing near bases of fine and numerous cypress trees lining both banks!Made my way back to launch and before I got all the way back, tossed a few times at first bass magnet and nabbed bass #5,nice and chunky T-Funk bass!!Chatted with Parish worker who was monitoring activities near 3 Rivers Launch and turns out he was from Massachussetts and had no intentions of returning, showed him nice box of bass and headed home to clean and bag nice catch!!Wifey has excellent recipe for bass using Parmesan cheese and Italian bread crumbs and baking and they are superb!!!Gotta love dat T-Funky when she gives up a few decent bass!!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Not sure to what to attribute the lack of fish in same area that I have found willing fish last few trips but ya gotta go to know and I spent Monday night in Kenner at my mom’s so I could get an early start on SShore fishing trip(solo trip).Launched de Southfork plenty early to try to see if last week’s fine redfish were still hanging around and took a few quick pics of incredible sunrise and started chunking and chunking to no avail, other than a smallish croaker and then I hit bass spot,Parish Line Canal and only boated one decent bass, missed at least 5 others and weather started getting tad nasty so I headed for launch and stopped at a few PowerLine Pilings, nada to show for it-frustrating as the water is gorgeous-could see the bottom in 5 ft of water at Piling #97(corner Piling)and I could clearly see debris on bottom where we hang up lures!!!Think I am gonna try T-Funky for some bassing tomorrow.Enjoy de sunrise pics!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.

Met fishing buddy tad before 5:45 am and had pleasant surprise in store for me(he had one of our older son’s high school buddies from St.Paul’s with him).Seems like this fellow has grown into fine youg man, working with his Mom and Dad in their business!!We made de trek across a fairly choppy Lady P,tamed quite a bit by my buddies fine Key West bay boat and nice trim tabs and we started chunking soft plastics in area of small well heads and platforms where we last time caught nice specks and it was not too long before we started tangling with some beasts of reds, exceeding 27 inches, and dat was when we realized we had no landing net(must have blown out on last trip). Was a tad of a chore landing these beasts but just took patience and gripping those beasts using the bottom of their gill plates and hoisting them aboard, grabbing a hold of the jig head as well(I use about excusively Gamakatsu jig hooks when I make custom jig heads with Do-It mold)!!Covered bit of water on our way back, with nothing to show for it and tried a few more well heads and the 8 mile turnaround(Metairie side)and the last stop, the 4 mile turnaround(Mandeville side)and all I had to show was a shaved-off tail on Gulp, probably decent croaker as they have tendency to chow on dem floppy tails!!Might take Wifey next week(have my Southfork flat in Kenner at my Mom’s house)-short drive to launch and not bad drive to productive areas!!!     Tony Cyprus,Jr.
