knack to finding fish to his first mate - Luna, the wonder dog. Luna, a
seven-year-old Australian Shepherd mix, accompanies Epstein and his customers on every fishing trip. And many believe that this dog has a
gift of knowing how to track down schools of hungry fish. "Everyone down here knows Luna," Epstein said. "She's goes on every trip that I go on. She's great with kids, and the customers love her." Epstein often calls Luna the best deckhand he's ever seen. "They're inseparable," said Norman Flynn, who
accompanied Epstein and Luna on a recent excursion in Breton Sound.
"Everyone who knows Brian, knows Luna." Flynn, and others, insist that Luna has some kind of mystical fish-finding ability. "Yea, I know it's hard to believe, but I've seen it with my own eyes," Flynn said. "It was amazing." Flynn said one morning as he stood at the stern of Epstein's 23-foot Kenner, he watched when the captain apparently conferred with his "deckhand" on where they would fish that day. "I watched Brian go to the bow where the dog was," Flynn said. "No one was paying attention to what was going on. But I saw Brian whispering in Luna's ear." Flynn said that Epstein appeared to whisper in the dog's ear four times, and she seemed to respond by shaking her head. But on the fourth time, Luna's eyes seem to light up. Epstein smiled and walked back to the console. "Then, the dog then seemed to point the way for us to
go," Flynn said. "If Luna looked right, then Brian turned right. If
she looked left, then Brian turned left." Several minutes later Luna's ears stood straight up, Flynn said, and Epstein pulled back on the throttle. And everyone one board began to catch speckled trout on every cast. "It was amazing," Flynn said. "No, I don't think anyone minds having the dog on the boat. I think a lot of his customers insist that she comes along." Epstein adopted Luna about six years ago after she was found limping along on Jackson Avenue in New Orleans. Luna found a new home, and Epstein discovered his best friend, as well as one of the best deckhands in the southeast Louisiana marshes. ![]() [Home Page] [Directions] [LUNA] [The Area] [Trips Include] [Trophy Trout] [Fishing Reports] [Photo Gallery] For advertising information click here. | Email LA Fishing & Hunting Our high speed connection to the Internet is provided by Broadband IP All content on this site Copyright 1995-2009 Rigs, Reefs & Wrecks Inc. | |||||||||||||||||||
