Lafitte ReportToday Capt.James had the pleasure of fishing with Kevin Keese and his girlfriend Lillian.Today was a special trip as this was Kevin's last fishing trip before he deploys to Iraq. With the northeast winds they decided to forgo the trout bite to the west as it was dirty there yesterday.Once on the Myrtle Grove side,Kevin and Capt.James worked the fringes of the duck ponds.Capt.James's stays out of the ponds this time of year as this is what the duck hunters wait all year for.Anyway, they started picking away at the reds putting some good ones on ice.Kevin had the hot hand today as the fish gods must have known this was his last trip for awhile. They worked them over catching around 30 reds in all and putting their 10 fish limit on ice and releasing the rest. They also added 2 trout and a puppy drum to the box.Lillian did not fish as she was nursing a fractured wrist. She sat back and enjoyed the scenery. All fish ate H&H Baby Bull Minnows tightlined to the shore on 1/4oz.jigheads with St.Croix Rods. Kevin, as a Air Force Veteran, I want to THANK YOU for your service to our country. It is people like yourself that allows us to have the freedoms in this country that many take for granted!! Again THANK YOU and remember you will always have a place on my boat. GOD BLESS Capt.James

Lafitte ReportI (Capt.James)spent the last few days at my farm in Bassfield and after seeing how nice the lake looked this morning(on the way home),I decided to make an afternoon trip with my lab Mocha.Dropped a few things off at the house in Metairie, picked up a few rods and was off to Lafitte.Launched and made the run to Little Lake and made the first cast around 1pm.First cast was a nice trout then picked up 3 more keepers and made a short move.Picked up 4 more keepers and moved again.I made one short drift and put the final 17 on ice to finish off my limit by 3pm.Sat back on the ice chest and shared a pack of nabs and an RC with Mocha, enjoying the scenery of pelicans feasting on a school of pogies. All trout hit H&H clear/chart beetle fished 2ft. under a cork with Power Pro Line and St.Croix rods. The fish were stacked in a current line running through a line of crab traps. COUPLE QUICK ONES...On Sunday, Team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Drs Chris and Darren Barrilleaux and their buddy Wayne Patterson. They left the dock in search of trout and Capt Mike was ready for a change of pace from all of the redfishing he has been doing. They got on a pretty decent bite in the Little Lake early boating around 35 or so nice ones using H&H beetles under a cork. Capt Mikey was pounding the trout with his crew way down in Barataria Bay(?) so they headed out a little farther towards Hackberry Bay. When they reached Snail Bay the water turned a pretty green color which indicated some good salinity. They drifted an oyster reef near Creole Bay and the corks were going down immediately as the trout attacked the beetles. They were fishing areas that we fish in June and were catching trout. Further proof that the trout fishing is still yet to come for the fall/winter for the inside. A lot of the fish are still on the outside in mid-November which is something we have seen for the first time this year. The guys ended the day with 80 nice trout and 1 big bull red caught by Wayne on the outside, and 3 drum and 1 red that they caught on a point using shrimp in the marsh off of Bay Five. Another great day on the water for sure. Thanks to Drs Darren and Chris and Wayne for maiking it possible. Today, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with good friends and customers Mr Ted Sternberg and his Grandson Matt. It was chilly and windy this AM upon leaving the marina and the fishing looked to be in doubt. When the guys reached the protected waters of Little Lake it looked fishable so they gave it a shot. Throwing H&H Cocahoe Minnows tightlined they hooked and landed 10 pretty reds and missed a few as well which warmed the hands a little. Around noon the wind lightened up some and it warmed up enough to give the trout a try. Making drifts way off shore along a crab trap line the boyz put 33 nice sized trout on top of the reds and Mr Ted had his fill and called it a day. He is a true gentleman who is fun to fish with and has a lot of history with him too. He and Matt were going to the Hornets game tonite and we hope you guys enjoyed it. We look forward to the next one! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND SHRIMP ON POWER PRO LINE. COUPLE MORE REPORTS...On Friday Capts Mike Helmer, Mikey Kennair, and James Wilson took care of Mr Dwight Johnston and 8 of his associates. The weather was great and all 3 boats had great days on the water. Some fished trout early and some tried the reds. On this day the bite was early while the tide was falling and that's when most of the fish were caught. Capt James's crew had 70 trout and 4 reds, Capt Mikey's had 40 trout and a few reds, and Capt Mike Helmer and his guys put 20 pretty reds and 15 trout on ice. Another great day on the pond with some really nice folks. Thanks to Mr Dwight and all on this trip for all they do for our service. We look forward to the December trip already! Today Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Johnny Ashby who brought along his wife Sherry and kids Erica and Chris for some fishing fun. Redfish was the targeted fish on this day and Erica struck first with a nice red. Capt Mike knew he had a serious one with Erica when she hit paydirt casting a Baby Bull Minnow right off the bat. All morning long Erica kept saying that she would rather be hunting ducks or deer than fishing this day but she was having fun. I guess all of the shots being heard from the duck hunters in the area got Erica in the mood for some hunting. How many 21 year old young ladies think like this? Not many that I know! After a couple bites things slowed down for a while but the guys had patience and it payed off. Chris went on a tear throwing a black and chartreuse H&H Cocahoe and put several nice reds on ice in a row and then Johnny caught fire and before they knew it the ice chest couldnt close. Those big reds will fill a box quick and they caught some fine fish today. The final tally was 25 beautiful reds, 1 freshwater catfish, and 5 tired anglers worn out from wrestling those hard-fighting redfish. Thanks to Johnny, Sherry, Chris, and Erica for a memorable day on the water. We look forward to seeing this bunch again. ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS ON POWER PRO LINE. LAFITTE REPORTOn October 31st and November 1st Team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with good friends and customers Trent Walker and Ronald Jack from Jackson, Tn. On those same days Capt Mikey Kennair had Mr Larry and Ms Kathy who joined Trent and Jack on their annual trip to Louisiana. Redfish and drum dominated both days for both groups as limits were brought in each day. Some were caught on plastic but most came on "cajun crickets". A front had passed and the wind was tough but the fishing was still great. Thanks to Trent, Jack, Larry, and Kathy for 2 very enjoyable days on the water. On Monday November 2nd, Capt Mike Helmer was joined by good friends and customers Mike Montgomery and Matt Watson for some redfishing. They started off in the Little Lake area and picked up 13 nice reds that morning using shrimp under a cork. On the way in they finished their limit and released a few more in Bayou Rigolets fishing a point on the bottom with shrimp. They added a few drum to the mix at this spot as well. A great time was had by all again on this trip and we thank Mike and Matt for another great day on the pond. On Tuesday, Capt Helmer left the dock with 1 angler and found a bunch of trout early in the upper Barataria Bay area. They caught 'em in areas we would normally fish in the summer. This was actually one of the first days we have caught a limit of trout this fall. Now we know why as the fish have just begun to move in. I think the best trout fishing is yet to come as we will catch in December what we normally do in November. The mild fall temps and lack of salinity inside are to blame in my opinion. Whatever the case, Later on in November and in December should be some great trout fishing as is evident in some of the catches soon to be reported here. On Thursday Capt Mike had the pleasure of taking out Tommy Griffiths who brought along Bruce, Matt, and Dave for some fishing fun. After a relaxing night spent in our lodge located at the Seaway Marina the guys left the dock in search of trout heading south toward the big lake. The fishing was steady but not great due to the wind and the guys boated 40 nice trout before looking for some redfish. They fought the wind and boated 7 nice reds and some drum and sheepshead on bait before heading back to the dock. The box looked pretty good at the end of the day especially in light of the strong winds that were blowing. We look forward to fishing with this bunch of really nice guys again real soon and appreciate their business. On Friday and Saturday Capt Mike fished with good friends and customers Kenny Bolline, his dad Dr Steve, Thomas Francese, and Geno Troy. Day 1 was spent chasing redfish and the guys did well with the big fish boating 14 drum, 18 reds, and 5 trout. The box was full for sure on this day. Day 2 had the guys looking for trout early and they hit the motherlode in the Little Lake area cathing 125 of the sabre tooth critters. They also added 7 redfish and several drum to the mix for good measure. Another great trip for the Bollines and guests. We always enjoy this group of guys who are great to Capt Mike and our service. On Sunday and Monday(yes we did fish on Monday!) Capt Mike Helmer was joined by good friends and customers John Dossey and Johnny Dobbs from Bentonville, Arkansas. The conditions were tough on Sunday but the guys had a great day on the water boating 20 specks and a full limit of 15 redfish with some big fish in the chest. The big reds came on spinnerbaits in less than a foot of water(the new boat floats pretty shallow!). Talk about fun! Day 2 was windy to say the least. I guess it is going to be windy when it is given a name(Ida) but believe it or not they managed to put together a respectable catch of 12 nice puppy drum, 6 reds, and 2 sheepshead. It was definitely worth while going out and we are glad to pull off both days with this crew. They dont come any better and more generous than John Dossey and Johnny Dobbs. Thanks for everything guys!! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND SHRIMP ON POWER PRO LINE. Lafitte/Delacroix ReportIt was a rough windy day for us in both Lafitte and Delacroix. We had 3 boats on the west and 1 in the east. Not a banner day but in 30mph winds everyone did ok. Holmes Trip Capt.James and Capt.Mikey fished with good friend and client Jeremy Holmes and crew. With the stiff southeast wind they both made the run way east and picked away at the fish. They worked for them but both boats had a combined total of about 90 keeper trout,8 reds,9 puppy drum and a doormat flounder. No limits but a decent day considering the winds today. Capt.Mike was still out so I will get his report from him later. Delacroix Cambell Trip Capt.Bart fished opted to fish in Delacroix today with the high winds. He had John and Jason with him. They fished just off the twins and put 56 nice trout in the box and threw back a ton of little guys.John and Jason said that was the most fish they have ever caught. H&H Baby Bull Minnow tightlined and fished under a cork is what they wanted today. Back out in the morning in Lafitte with 7 boats. We will see what happens with the front passing by. Lafitte ReportThe redfish bite remains strong down here in Lafitte. The only slow days were this past sat. and sun. but a few of our boats did manage to put their limits on ice.Yesterday and this morning limits hit the boxes before 9am.We have been running anywhere between 3 to 8 boats daily. For reds its been no big secret.Just let the winds tell you where to fish.On east winds fish the east side of Lake Salvador or make the run to the Myrtle Grove side and hit Bay Round. On a west wind fish Bay L'Ours and the west side of Perot.North winds hit north side of Lake Salvador and Turtle Bay.And finally with south winds hit the south side of Lake Salvador.Best baits have been H&H Baby Bull Minnows in smoke/chart.The trout bite has been really hit or miss.Capt.James had around 80 the other day with the Finnan Group and 60 a couple days later with the Woodrow Wilson Group. The south side of Little Lake was the area buts its over until the water cleans up.Not much happening in the Pen.That is still about 2 weeks away. Check out the photos of all the reds!! We are back at everyday for awhile. We have a few openings left for this month and next month. COUPLE QUICK ONES...Fishing remains strong especially for redfish. After the front comes through this weekend the trout should start to bunch up. On this past Friday Capts Mike Helmer and Dave Marino had the pleasure of fishing 2 boats with Joey Jarrell and some customers of the Mississippi Power Co. It was pretty windy but the guys managed to put some nice redfish on ice fishing the lee shorelines of Lake Salvador. The water has stayed beautiful in that area in spite of the strong winds we have been having lately. Thanks to Joey and all on this trip for a great day on the water. On Saturday Capts Mike Helmer and Mikey Kennair had the pleasure of fishing with a group of guys from Atlanta with Otis Elevator. Gandy and Andy were ready to catch some fish as usual and both boats did well boating nice limits of reds and a few bonus fish in the Little Lake area. Super nice guys make up this group and we appreciate all they do for our service and a great time was had by all on this one. On Sunday, Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with good friend and customer Mr Jim Beskin who brought along buddies Dr Norm Danati and Dr John Papa for some fishing action. The conditions were less than perfect with the wind and rain but the guys put together a good catch consisting of 14 nice reds, a couple drum, and 2 nice flounder. They stayed busy with the rat reds and puppy drum in between and had an enjoyable day on the water. Thanks again to Jim, Norm, and John for a fun day on the water spent with nice folks. Capts Mike Helmer and Mike Juhasz had the pleasure of fishing with Dr Brady Allen and his fellow Dr buddies Tuesday thru today. All I can say is that the guys put the hurt on the redfish all 3 days and caught a bunch of nice puppy drum as well. Needless to say they are hooked on our Louisiana redfish and will be back to do it again real soon. We really enjoyed meeting this bunch who are as nice as they come and we got a kick out of watching 'em catch those reds. Thanks to Dr Brady and all on this trip for 3 outstanding days on the water. We are already looking forward to their next trip! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS, SHRIMP, AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO LINE. If anyone lost a rod and reel at the mouth of Lake Salvador and Bayou Des Allemands give me a call at 504-689-2006. It is an ABU Garcia Black Max reel on an FLW rod. It has 09/30 Sam written on the bottom of the reel. I caught it while fishing today and would love to return it to you. I have lost many of them and know you dont often get 'em back. It still works fine, the water is so fresh in that area that it wasnt hurt by the salt. Hope I can help someone find their lost rod and reel, Capt Mike.

Lafitte ReportAnother AWESOME REDFISH DAY here in Lafitte. Averwater Trip Today was the third and final day that the Averwaters fished with Capt.James and Capt.Mike.Eveyone was moving slowly this morning after feasting on Chucks ribs,Ms.Judys gumbo and Rachaels bread pudding from last night. Both boats headed out to the lake where they found them yesterday. They were not home so they criss crossed the lake until Capt.Mike found them blowing up on the pogies.Soon everyone was hooked up and catching and releasing lots of reds. When that bite slowed down it was off to fish the points where they got into them again. When it was all over each boat boated around 100 reds, releasing all but one limit that Capt.James kept for his uncle. Mr.Bob,Chuck,Chip Crickett and Pat, we really appreciate everything. Its nice getting to spend time with all of you every year.Chuck you really outdid yourself with the ribs this year. They were the best we have ever had. Thanks again. Capt.Mikey again today helped out our friend Capt.Mike G.. He headed over to the hole on a catch and release trip and mauled the fish. The easily caught over 80 res and puppy drum with Capt.Mikey keeping a limit for himself. All the Averwaters reds hit H&H Baby Bull MInnow tightlined while Capt.Mikey fished shrimp on the bottom. Lafitte Reportanother great day down here in Lafitte. We had 3 boats out and all 3 had really good days on the water. Averwater Trip Capt.James and Capt. Mike once again had Mr.Bob,Chuck,Chip,Crickett and Pat out for a great redfishing trip. With calm winds first thing both boats ran to the lake and found the reds schooling on the surface chasing pogies.Only problem was getting more than 1 fish out of the school as they were moving fast. But in the end boths boats easily put their limits on ice and released over 25 more reds per boat.Tomorrow is the final day and will be catch and release. Now its off to Capt. Mikes house for the AWESOME RIBS that Chuck always brings down. Capt. Mikey today helped out another charter friend Capt.Mike G. with a group of guys. They made the run to the hole and pounded the fish.By 8:30am they filled the box up with their 25 redfish limit and 25 puppy drum limit and headed back to SEAWAY. Capt.James and Capt.Mikes reds ate H&H Baby BUll Minnow tightlined while Capt.Mikeys crew fished shrimp on the bottom. Another good day on the water here in Lafitte. We had 3 boats out and everyone did very well.Averwater Trip Capt.James and Capt.Mike once again had the Averwaters out for the first day on their annual 3 day trip. With weather in the area both boats made the run up to the hole and started putting a few fish in the box. They stayed there until the storms ran them back to the marina for a couple hours. When the rain stopped it was back out near Bayou Perot where they put a hurting on the redfish. Both boats had their limits plus plenty of puppy drum to end the day.Not a bad way to start their 3 day trip. Bundy Trip Capt.Mikey once again fished with Bruce Bundy and the fellows. They also stayed close fishing the hole and had a good box of fish. When they called it a day they had their limits of puppy drum plus 11 good redfish. All puppy drum ate shrimp on the bottom. The majority of the reds ate H&H Baby Bull Minnows tightlined to the shore. Lafitte ReportAnother great day down the bayou here in Lafitte. We had 6 boats out and everyone really did a number on the fish. For the crew that cancelled there trip, you sure missed a good one today. The passing front last night did not really affect our fishing at all. Menzer Party Capt.James had Mr. Menzer,Don,Donnie and Ms.Jan out for the best of what we have to offer. They fish twice a year with Capt.James and love to catch both specks and reds. With the winds not blowing to bad they made the run to where Capt.James has been catching some Lafitte trout. They made one pass and started putting some trout on ice.On the second pass the winds started blowing pretty good and the trout shut down. With a nice mess on ice it was time to head to the deep hole.Once they got there, they filled up the box with puppy drum and reds. They called it an early day with 41 keeper trout,21 puppy drum and 10 nice reds. Riely Electric Capt.Mikey and Capt.Dave M. fish with Paul and the crew from Reily. They wanted big fish so off to the deep hole they went.It was on from the moment they set the anchors. Both boats easily caught their limits of 25 reds and 25 puppy drum each. Steele Party Capt.Beau Jr. and Capt. Mike D. fished David Steele and the crew for their second day on the water. They guys were running late but it did not matter today. They also ran to the deep hole and pounded the fish. Both boats had their limits of redfish and puppy drum and were back at the dock early where the guys could go experience Burbon Street. Hester Trip Capt.Mike H. once again fished with Lawson Hester,Greg and Eli.Same report as the others. The had a great day on the water putting their 20 redfish limit on ice plus 10 nice puppy drum and a dozen channel cats. All trout came on H&H Beeltes fished 2ft. under a cork on the current lines. The reds and puppy drum ate up shrimp on the bottom. Thursday ReportCapt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Shannon Slay, Wayne Boyter, and Mark Blackburn. The guys started off their day in the lakes where they found redfish pounding pogies. Using H&H Baby Bull Minnows on 1/4 oz jigheads the boys put a nice limit of reds on ice early. They then made their way to the deep hole at Bayou Perot and put 15 nice puppy drum on ice. Talk about a box of fish! Not unusual though as the fishing for redfish and puppy drum has been outstanding. Just think how it will be when the trout show up! We cant wait and would love to put you on some of this great action. We still have boats available for October and November(5 full time guides) especially during the week so give us a call and get in on this awesome fishing. Lafitte ReportA nice day on the bayou today after the storms cleared the area. All 3 boats had good days catching plenty of fish. Steele Party Capt.James and Capt.Mike had David Steele and the gang for the first day of their 2 day trip. After sleeping in because of the weather both boats left Seaway around 10:30 am and made the run to the deep hole.Once anchored up things started slow but both boats started putting some pretty puppy drum and a few reds on ice. After a little while the tide stopped(very crucial as you need tide in the holes) and the fish shut down.Capt.James got antsy and they took off in search of the elusive Lafitte speckled trout. The winds were calm and they found a few that wanted to bite. The keeper to thowback ratio was about 1 in 3.They worked at it and ended the day with a good box of 34 nice trout,14 puppy drum and 5 nice reds.Capt.Mike stayed put and when the tide turned they put good fish on ice. They ended their day with their limits(20) reds,14 puppy drum and a bunch of channel cats. Frye Trip Capt.Mikey had out once again Chris Frye and the crew.Same thing as they slept in and left the marina around 10:30am.Once they got anchored up right they had a good trip easily putting their 20 redfish limit and 20 puppy drum limit on ice. All trout came on H&H Beetles fished 2ft. under a cork on the current lines. The reds and puppy drum came on shrimp fished on the bottom. Back at it again tomorrow with 7 boats. We will see what happens as this front pushes through. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's Orignal Professional Fishing Team where Fishing is fun. COUPLE RECENT TRIPS...The trout are still scattered but we have been catching the reds and drum in the rain and in the sunshine. The forecasted front may move the specks a little closer, we will see! On Thursday, team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Mr Charlie Collier from Maryland on a solo trip. Charlie and his future in-law Mr Landon fished with Capt Mike on Sunday and caught a bunch of fish so while in town Charlie decided to fish another day. The guys had another good day boating 2 limits of nice reds along with a few drum and a dozen or so keeper trout. They had a lot of action on short specks which was fun but did nothing for the box. All in all another good day on the water spent with good folks. Thanks to Mr Charlie for 2 fun days and for using our service. It's always fun to meet new customers especially ones like Mr Charlie and Mr Landon. On Friday, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with his friend Ivy who brought along his brother-in-law and 3 friends whom he works with. They started off chasing trout on the north side of Barataria Bay but it was slow going and only a few keepers were boxed. Then it was off to find reds in the marsh and the guys landed 10 nice ones and a few drum before the skies opened up. After waiting it out for a while at the marina the crew headed to the honey hole and smacked a limit of nice puppy drum and a couple more reds before calling it a day to head in and clean fish. Another day that the box "truly runneth over!" Thanks to Ivy and all on this trip for another fun day in the marsh spent with more good folks. We hope to see 'em again real soon. On Saturday, Capt Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Mike Gannaway who brought his wife Sandra and friends James and Gail Nesbit for some fishing fun. With bad weather looming the guys headed to the deep hole on the north end of Bayou Perot that has been producing and the fish were hungrier than usual. They were hooked up from the first drop and didnt stop fishing even when the rain came. In short order they boxed their limits of reds and drum and were plum worn out(even Capt Mike!). They headed in early and got to cleaning and the fish which took a while. Definitely another action packed day of catching for sure. Thanks to Mike, Sandra, James, and Gail for a truly enjoyable trip with really nice folks. We hope their trip home was easier than their trip down and we hope to see them again real soon. On Sunday, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with first time customers Ben and Nick King who brought along Jen and Ashley to sample our Louisiana fishing. They fished the hole at Bayou Perot early and caught 18 nice drum but only a couple reds so with the guys wanting to find some reds, Capt Mike took off to the lakes. With the calm conditions, they found what they were looking for when a school of reds surfaced near the boat. Immediately everyone on board hooked up upon casting into the school and chaos ensued for the next hour as fish after fish were brought to the boat while several other reds chased the hooked fish trying to steal the jig from it's mouth. As Capt Mike put it "it doesnt get any better than this anywhere in the world for redfish". Moments like these dont happen every day but we are glad when we can share them with nice young people as this crew. Thanks to Ben, Nick, Jen, and Ashley for a memorable trip and for their generosity. Today, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with good friend and customer Mike Montgomery who brought along his brother-in-law and father-in-law, members of the Bordelon family. We all prayed for calm weather so we could find the school of reds which we located the day before but the wind was a blowin' at a decent clip from the west. They fished a protected shoreline for a while and boated 2 nice reds and 2 keeper drum before heading to the old faithful hole at Bayou Perot and proceded to fill the box with reds and drum using shrimp on a Carolina rig. Twenty drum and 18 reds were boxed on this day which made for a nice box of good eating fish. A great time was had by all and we thank Mike and the Bordelons for another fine day on the water spent with good folks! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND SHRIMP ON CAROLINA RIGS USING POWER PRO LINE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK A TRIP WITH LAFITTE'S MOST PROFESSIONAL FISHING TEAM PLEASE USE OUR NEW EMAIL ADDRESS WHICH IS CAPTAINPHIL02@COX.NET OR DROP US A LINE AT 504-689-2006. Lafitte ReportRain, rain go away!!! Decent morning here in Lafitte before getting run back to the dock due to the storms. We had 3 boats for Billy Simpson and the gang today.Capt.Beau Jr. and Capt.Mikey's crew wanted drum and reds this morning. They made the run to the secret hole and got on a good puppy drum bite. Both boats easily had their 20 puppy drum limits and 6 nice reds between them before the storms made them haul butt back to the marina.Capt.James crew wanted trout so they made the run to the east side and found plenty of trout. They had to pick through them but managed to put right at 50 keepers on ice before they also had to run back to the dock due to the massive storms. Not a bad couple hours of fishing. All trout came on H&H beetles fished 18 inches under a cork on the current lines. The puppy drum and reds ate shrimp on the bottom. We are back at it again tomorrow if Mother Nature lets us get out. Lafitte ReportWell, the trout are slowly working their way back north towards Lafitte after spending all summer in the bay.I (Capt.James) hit the water yesterday with Capt.Bart after enjoying a nice vacation cruise. We left Seaway in search of transition trout. We started off just north of the bay on the east side and found lots of bait and some trout. No big numbers but enough to make it interesting.Ran to the west, fishing points in between and found a few trout at every stop.Still no big numbers.Just steady action of throwbacks and keepers about 1in 5 ratio throwback to keepers. In the next week to 10 days the trout fishing will expolde in Lafitte. While search for trout we found some nice schools of reds to play around with.Since neither of us wanted to clean a bunch of fish we kept just 10 nice trout and 2 reds for dinner, which was really good. All trout and reds were taken using H&H beeltes fished 18 inches under a cork fishing current lines. We are back at it tomorrow with a couple boats. Will post what we find. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's Orignal Professional Fishing Team where Fishing is fun. You can e-mail us at captainphil02@cox.net or give us a call at 504-689-2006. LOOKING LIKE FALL IN LAFITTE...The fishing is starting to heat up in our area as fall approaches. The trout are starting to make their way in and the redfish and drum remain steady. Here are a couple recent reports. This past Tuesday and Wednesday we had the pleasure of fishing 3 boats with good friend and customer Mr Frank Carey of the Valent Chemical CO. Capts Mike Helmer, Mikey Kennair, and Beau Weber handled the guiding duties on this one. The wind was hellacious on day 1 and the fishing was slow as a result. The guys put a few reds and drum in the boats but it was tough. Day 2 brought better conditions and the catches were reflective as all 3 boats caught good redfish and had boxes full of fish. We had to "cheat" a little on this trip and use some storm minnows that Capt Mikey had caught with a cast net. Sometimes you got to give 'en what they want and they definitely wanted the minnows. We want to thank Frank and all on this trip for 2 great days on the water. We really enjoyed them and appreciate all that Frank and Valent does for our service. We want to say hi to our friend Trey Koger who couldnt make the trip. We hope to see you on the next one buddy! On Saturday we had the priveledge of doing an event for Harrah's Casino in New Orleans entitled "Fishing with Chef John Besh" who operates Besh Steakhouse at Harrah's. It was our first time meeting Chef Besh and was told ahead of time how nice of a guy he is. We must say how true that turned out to be. He is truly a genuinely great guy and was a blast to fish with. We enjoyed all of their other guests and employees as well and all 5 boats had an awesome day on the water. We want to thank all involved with the trip for a great event and we hope they enjoyed it as much as we did. On Sunday, Team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with first time customers Charlie Collier and Landon Cabell from the state of Maryland who came down to sample our redfishing. They had a great day with Capt Mike boating full limits of reds and drum along with a few other edible species. A great time was had by all and we hope to see this crew again when the trout move in. Capt Mikey Kennair had the pleasure of fishing with Danny Bruzza on Sunday who brought along 3 buddies for some fishing fun. The guys had a great day as well boating full limits of black drum and a bunch of reds which filled the box. Thanks to Danny and all of our customers who fished with us this week and made what we do for a living possible. ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS, SHRIMP, AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO LINE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK A TRIP WITH LAFITTE'S MOST PROFESSIONAL FISHING TEAM PLEASE USE OUR NEW EMAIL ADDRESS WHICH IS CAPTAINPHIL02@COX.NET OR DROP US A LINE AT 504-689-2006. FISHIN IN THE RAIN...We managed to pull off a few trips this weekend in spite of all the rain in the area. We even managed to catch a few fish in between showers. On Saturday, team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Johhny Ashby, Kevin Hatcher, and David Crews who were in town on behalf of AGI Industries. They had a good morning even though they left the dock in the rain. Shortly after arriving at the first stop, thankfully, the rain stopped and didnt return for the rest of their day. The fishing was action filled as the guys boated full limits of nice keeper-sized puppy drum, 10 nice redfish, and a few trout along with 1 flounder fishing the holes with shrimp. They also fought and released a few bull drum which gave their arms a work out. This crew enjoyed catching the fish on Saturday using shrimp on a Carolina rig but were used to bass fishing with lures and was ready for a change of pace on Sunday AM. Capt Mike headed for a shoreline in the Little Lake area and found decent water and a ton of mullet. There were some big reds under the mullet and the guys really enjoyed catching them on plastic cocahoes and spoons. The fish were large and after the limit of bulls was reached, they turned a few loose. The rain that was promised got there pretty early on Sunday so they called it an early day before noon to head back home. We send our thanks to Johnny, Kevin, and Dave as well as the people at AGI for using our service and making what we enjoy doing for a living possible. We also fished 3 boats with the Wayne Harnack party on Saturday evening. Capts Mike Kennair, Mike Juhasz, and Bart Cimo handled the boats and put them on some nice drum and reds fishing the holes with shrimp. They kept just enough fish to have dinner at Jan's that evening and I know the fishing and the dinner was greatly enjoyed upon talking to Wayne. We appreciate their business and look forward to next year. ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS, SHRIMP, AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO LINE. HERE'S A COUPLE RECENT TRIPS. THE FISHING REMAINS STEADY NOW ESPECIALLY FOR REDFISH AND PUPPY DRUM.On Saturday, Team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Mr Charlie Truong from Texas who brought along son Garrett and daughter Zoe for some fishing fun. It had been a couple years since we saw Charlie and boy his kids have grown. Garrett was a little guy when we first met the Truongs but he has become a fine young man all buff from working out in preparation for his power-lifting competitions. On the fishing trip, though, it was Zoe who was flexing the muscles early with the first couple keepers. Soon all joined in and the guys had a ball with the puppy drum and reds in the holes using shrimp on a Carolina rig. Everybody caught their share of good and not so good fish(hardheads, sting rays) and a great time was had by all. They ended the day with full limits of puppy drum and 10 nice reds, a lot of good eating and fun for sure. Thanks to Charles, Garrett, and Zoe for another fine day on the water. On Sunday, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with good friends Kip and Becky Collum from the Jackson Ms area. With the calm conditions greeting the crew they decided to chase trout for a while in the AM. Things looked decent in upper Barataria Bay as gulls were diving on shrimp being chased by hungry trout. Only problem was that not all of the trout were keepers but the guys put 30 or so on ice to start the day while having fun with the under-sized fish, not bad for transition time. Then it was off to the redfish hot spot where Kip and Becky caught a limit of nice ones in short order on shrimp. A nice box of fish was brought in consisting of 30 trout and 15 reds. Thanks to Kip and Becky for a fun day on the water spent with nice folks. Today, Capt Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with good friend and customer Mr Pat Benfield who brought along son Aaron and buddies David and Mr Jim for some fishing action. Thirty percent chance of rain was the forecast but the rain was around early. This had the wind kicked up and the trout bite was non-existent this AM so after a few stops and only a few trout to show for their efforts, the guys deceded to concentrate on the reds and puppy drum in the deeper holes. The first stop yielded only hardheads and the second produced a few keepers. The third and final stop was where they hit pay-dirt catching several drum and reds to add to the box. The final tally was 19 drum, 12 reds, and a handfull of trout, a nice box of fish and a lot of good eating. Thanks to Mr Pat for all he does for our service and thanks to all else on the trip for another enjoyable day on the water. ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND SHRIMP ON POWER PRO LINE. Lafitte ReportAnother awesome day on the water here in Lafitte. The redfish and puppy drum bite is off the charts. Today we had Capt.James and Capt.Mikey with the guys from Mclain Plumbing out once again. They fished 2 weeks ago and slammed the reds.Today was no different. Both boats made the run to the deep holes and found the fish stacked up.Both boats easily put their puppy drum and redfish limits on ice and released lots more.Check out the photo. Capt.Mike H. had Roy Cox and crew and they fished the same holes and pounded the fish also. They easily put their 25 redfish and 25 puppy drum on ice. All fish were caught fishing the deep holes using both shrimp and H&H Plastics bounced on the bottom. We are back at it all weekend will post when we can. GREAT WEATHER AND FISHING...Today, team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Mr Sam Perino and his guest Jenny. They headed south hoping to find some trout this AM but the wind was just too strong and the trout were'nt feeding. Not much time was wasted before the guys headed north in search of redfish. With good tide movement and bait found on a point in Little Lake they set up shop on the Power Pole and tossed the corks and shrimp near the bank. Soon the corks were disappearing as the reds and nice sized puppy drum were attacking the shrimp. Two door-mat flounder were also landed which will make for some fine eating as well. When the action slowed a near limit of drum and 9 big reds were on ice along with the flat fish. They made one more stop in one of the holes that has been producing and caught several more drum and the last of the redfish. The box was full with 15 reds, 15 puppy drum, and 2 big flounder. It was another fun day on the water spent with some really nice folks and a great time was had by all. Thanks to Mr Sam and Jenny for making this day possible. Lafitte ReportI(Capt.James)enjoyed another good morning of bass fishing down the bayou in Lafitte.Everyone that knows me, knows how much I love to catch those green fish.Last thursday was the first time in a long while that I was able to go chase them.So with the day off today, I gathered up Mocha and headed out in search of those green treasures.Made the run up to the grass beds and got a few hits on the old buzzbait putting 2 keepers in the livewell.Got a few more blow ups but nothing to show for it.Made a quick move and found some water running around a point and picked up 8 more keepers.Final score was 10 green trout,1 small red(17 inches) and about a 6lb. mudfish.Nice easy morning of fishing as I was back at the dock with fish cleaned and boat washed and put up in the shed for 10:30. All fish caught on buzzbaits fished in the grassbeds. Back at it for the rest of the week chasing those silver and red looking fish.Capt.Mike had a great morning limiting out on both reds and puppy drum.See his report later. COUPLE RECENT TRIPS...The late summer fishing has been pretty good in Lafitte especially for redfish that have moved to the deep holes. The trout are starting to make their way north and we should have a bunch of them on the inside by October as usual. On Tuesday, August 25th, team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with first time customer Mr Ted Steinberg who brought along his grand-son Matt Arnold for some fishing fun. With the great conditions and calm winds they made their way south to look for some trout. After catching a few in the first area on the North side of Barataria Bay, Capt Mike headed a little farther south around the Cat Islands and got on a decent trout bite off a point. Matt and Mr Ted put 45 nice trout on ice on plastics and Matt landed a 33lb Bull Red to add some excitement to the day. They fished a couple shorelines on the way in and added 1 keeper red to the mix ending the day with 45 trout and 1 red. Not bad for transition time and a great time was had by all. On Friday, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with good friends and customers Byron Boykin and Melanie Lonero. It was one of those days when things just didnt get going with the fishing. They looked around the Cat Islands where the trout were on Tuesday and they were gone! They got on a little bit of a bite farther north and ended up with close to 30 keeper trout. The reds were tough as well and only 1 big one was caught. I guess that's why it's called fishing and not catching. Thanks to Byron and Melanie for a fun day on the water spent with some nice folks. We will definitely get 'em next time! If you cant beat 'em, join 'em. That's the theme for Saturday's trip Capt Helmer had with Charles Ward and his 2 sons Charlie and Matt and buddy David Guevaro. The fish are in the holes so that's where they fished with shrimp on a Carolina Rig. After several catfish, croakers, small reds, and let's not forget sting rays and of course a lot of patience, the keeper reds started coming aboard. The guys put a nice limit of reds and several big drum in the boat and had a blast. Thanks to Charles and all of his boys for another outstanding day on the water. We hope to see them again in the fall when the trout move in and the reds are acting as they do normally, feeding on the shorelines! Lafitte Bass ReportI (Capt.James) had the day off today so I grabbed my most loyal friend, Mocha and drove down to Lafitte to chase some green fish.Put the Avenger in the water and Mocha and I left SEWAY at 6am making the run north to Bay Badeaux.I handicapped myself only bringing buzzbaits and frogs.Well, several buzzbaits was all that was needed. On the second cast the first bass hit the boat. Not a big one but good eating size about 3/4lb.Worked the edge of the grass till about 8am catching plenty more up to about 4lbs.From there we made the run to the north side of the Pen and worked the grass edges there with the same results.Ended the morning at 9:45(when the wind really started blowing) ,getting 57 buzzbait strikes(cliked the clicker), landing 22 bass and 3 reds.Lost 4 more reds that destroyed my buzzbaits.A great morning on the water with my lab. For the duck hunters,I did see 2 groups of teal at Lake Salvador and 1 more group by the Pen.Also plenty of gators out this morning.Saw one over 8ft. at the mouth of Bay Badeaux. Lafitte ReportHere are a few more reports from this past weekend down the bayou in Lafitte. The redfish bite was insane all weekend starting friday. Friday Aug. 21. Keese Trip Capt.James has the pleasure of fishing with Kevin Keese, his brother Doug and his girlfriend Cheynne.Keven usually fishes on his own but has had a few tuff trips so after exchanging a few e-mails with Capt.James he decided to go ahead and book a trip to learn more about Lafitte. The loaded up the Avenger and left SEAWAY shortly after 6am and made the run to a grassy shoreline. They could see reds working but could only get 4 good ones to bite.A quick move was made and they found the reds schooled up and crashing the mullet. It was redfish heaven. In a matter of minutes they finished off their redfish limits. It was a red on just about every cast. With the box loaded with 20 reds they ran way south to Hackberry Bay to find a few trout. They got on a decent bite but the storms really blew up and chased them back to the dock. Not a bad morning as they had 20 nice reds and a dozen trout on ice and were dry sitting at the marina for 9:30.Now Kevin and Doug held their own but Cheynne was the QUEEN landing the 2 biggest reds of the day. Parry Trip Capt.Mike J. had Ryan Parry out for a redfish slam while his better half spent the morning shopping in New Orleans. They made the run to the north side of Lafitte and found REDFISH HEAVEN.The reds were everywhere just going crazy eating up the mullet. He made a quick phone call to the other TEAM CAPTAINS and they proceeded to pound the redfish.10 good reds hit the box and Ryan released many, many more.He told Capt.Mike J. that they don't have reds like this at home in Naples,Fl.After getting tired of catching reds they hit a deep hole to catch a few puppy drum.Back at the dock they had their 10 redfish limit plus several puppy drum and a freshwater cat. Mclain Plumbing Capt.Mikey had the guys from Mclain Plumbing. They spent the night at our lodge and met up with Capt.Mikey at 6am.Like the other boats they found the reds crashing the mullets. They easily put their 25 redfish limit on ice and released several more and decided to call it an early day. Saturday Aug. 22 Belden Builders Capt.James and Capt.Beau Jr. had 2 boats out for the guys from Belden Builders. They got a much needed day off from working on putting the new skin on the Superdome. Both boats made the run to REDFISH HEAVEN and found them crashing the mullet. It was mayham in both boats.Capt.James crew had their 25redfish limit on ice in under 40 minutes and played catch and release with about 15-20 more before going to chase some trout.Capt.Beau Jr. crew finished up just as fast putting their 20 redfish limit on ice.Capt.Beau's crew played catch and release for the rest of the day.The caught reds everywhere they went along with some green trout.Capt.James crew made the run south again finding lots and lots of throwback trout with just a few keepers mixed in.They ended up adding 30 keeper trout to their 25redfish limit and were back at the dock well before noon. Sunday Aug.23 Dr.Giuffre Trip Capt.Beau Jr. had Dr. Brent and Kevin out for a redfish slam.It started out a little slower today with the passing front. But when the sun got up good the mullet got nervous and the reds began to feed. They had no problems putting their 20 fish limit on ice. All reds were taken on gold spoons and the trout on H&H Beetles fished 2ft. under a cork. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's Orignal Professional Fishing Team where Fishing is fun. REDFISH BITING IN LAFITTE...The
fishing has been good to great lately as the fish have begun
to feed again after taking a little while off. Here are a
couple recent trips. On Friday August 14th and Saturday
the 15th Capts Mike Helmer and Mike Kennair had the pleasure
of fishing 2 days with good friend and customer Mr John
Dossey from Arkansas who brought along buddies Mr Larry
Atkinson, Mr Johnny Dobbs, and Mr Marion McCollum who owns
and operates Mac's Prairie Wings in Stuttgart, Arkansas for
all of the duck hunting enthusiasts around the country. John
is a great guy who always showers us with goodies when he
comes down and this trip was no exception. We especially
appreciate the awesome folks he brings down and introduces
to our service and Larry, Johnny, and Marion are certainly
some great people. On day 1 of the trip both boats started
out trout fishing and had some decent
success, especially Capt Mikey who boated close to a 3 man
limit. Capt Helmer boated close to 40 trout and also got
into some nice reds on the way in putting 9 big
ones on ice along with the specks. Day 2 was spent chasing
redfish only and both boats did well putting near limits of
good fish in their boats. John started out well landing a
brute of about 12 lbs on a spinnerbait for the first fish
and we thought we heard Mr Marion say something about being
ruined by these redfish(the way they fight). All in all it
was 2 great days on the water spent with some good guys. We
are already looking forward to their next trip! On
Wednesday and Thursday of this week we fished 2 boats with
Mr John Altom from the state of Florida. John brought down a
good group of guys who are all in the Agricultural field.
This trip was a definite improvement over last year's. Poor
John never left the dock as the rain didnt stop for both
days he was down here so we were hoping to atleast get to
fish this year. They decided to fish for redfish and put
together a couple decent days of fishing but they worked
hard for their catch. John landed a whopper of a drum on Day 2 which
added some excitement to the trip. We really enjoyed fishing
with this group and are looking forward to their next
trip. And then things changed...Friday, Capt Mike Helmer
had the pleasure of fishing with good friend and customer
John Bordlee who brought along his buddy Johnny to hopefully
catch some fish and boy did they catch the reds. They put a
limit in the boat in about a half hour that morning on
spoons and were catching trout on plastics when the rain
chased them off the water. Now that's more like it!! Thanks
to John and Johnny for another awesome day on the
water! On Saturday, 2 of our trips were with Mr Roy Koch
and friends and customers. Capts Mike Helmer and Mikey
Kennair did a repeat performance on the redfish for Mr Roy
and the gang. Limits came early and there was some time left
to catch a few trout. Capt Mikey's guys added 42 trout to
their redfish limit and Capt Helmer's crew added 30
speckles. Another great day on the water spent with some
fine people for sure! Thanks to Mr Roy and all on this trip
for their business and their generosity. On Sunday, Capt
Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Mr Greg Johnson
who brought along sons Greg and Gary for some fishing fun.
The guys put 20 nice reds on ice using shrimp in short order
and left Lafitte with some fine eating filets. A great time
was had by all again on this trip as well. Thanks to all of
our customers who used our service this week and made what
we do for a living possible.

COUPLE LAFITTE REPORTS...On Friday August 7th and the
8th, Team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with
good friend and customer Dr David Hubbs. On Friday, Dr Davis
had his brother Allen and 2 buddies along to fish and on
Saturday he flew solo with Capt Mike. The guys had a great
morning on Friday in Barataria Bay hammering the trout that were chasing shrimp
everywhere. They counted around 10:30 AM and had 106 good
ones on ice so it was off to put a few reds on top of the trout. Gold
spoons were put on the lines and the reds liked 'em as
usual. They boated 8 big reds and missed a few more to
finish off a great day. On Saturday Dr David and Capt Mike
decided to chase reds only and put a fairly easy limit of 10
on ice and released a few to boot. All in all it was 2 great
days on the water spent with some really nice folks and a
great time was had by all. On Tuesday Capt Helmer had the
pleasure of fishing with Mr Mike Montgomery and his buddy
Scott. These guys fished with us back in April on an
abbreviated trip due to bad weather and were looking for a
better day. The weather and the fishing were much better as
they caught a nice limit of redfish on spoons and spinnerbaits
in the Little Lake area. Another great day on the water for
sure with good people. Today Capt Mike had the pleasure of
fishing with a nice couple traveling from Oklahoma and
wanting to experience the thing called redfishing. Justin
Warren and his wife Nancy were a pleasure to spend a day on
the water with and thankfully they had a great day boating a
nice limit of reds. These fish are definitely going to taste
good in light of the effort it took to catch them. Sometimes
it is more rewarding though when you have to work for 'em.
Thanks to all of these fine folks who fished with our
service recently and allowed us to do what we love for a
living. We hope to see them all again real soon! ALL FISH
CAUGHT ON SOFT PLASTICS AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO

Lafitte ReportIt was a nice calm morning down the
bayou here in Lafitte today.I(Capt.James) had my nephew
Garth on board for one last trip before he starts high
school on thursday.Capt.Bart also made the trip with us this
morning. We pulled out of the marina around 6am making the
run south to the islands in Barataria Bay.Pulled up to a sunken
island and started catching trout right away.Played with those
awhile and hit several more islands until the storms ran us
back north. We caught trout at every stop this morning. We
caught maybe 150-175 trout keeping just 1 limit for my
nephew and sister to enjoy since Capt.Bart and myself
already had a few in the freezer. The rest were released to
be caught again another day. We ran back up to Little Lake
picking up a couple reds for the grill. We were starving
by this time so it was off to clean fish and to Jans for a
good lunch.Could not have asked for a better morning as I
got to spend time with my nephew and good friend Capt.Bart
Cimo. All trout caught at the islands in Barataria Bay
fishing H&H Cocahoes (chicken on a chain) about 2ft. under a
cork. For my friend GEAUXFISHIN, I lived up to the
nickname today as I had 5 straight El Gato's. Only took 1
photo this morning. Here is a great sunrise over Barataria
Bay. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's

Lafitte ReportIt was a wet windy day for the most part today. We did manage some time on the water before the monsoons hit us. Magee Party Capt.James once again had the pleasure of fishing with Dr.Magee and his son Wesley. Before they left SEAWAY MARINA, Capt.James pulled up the radar and winds at Grand Isle on his I-phone.There was a few storms in the bay and the winds were blowing pretty good.So they hit the marsh in search of Mr.Redfish.They saw plenty of reds but could not get them to bite. They ran a little further east on the Myrtle Grove side and found some good fish.Dr.Magee and Wesley put their limits of reds in the box plus a puppy drum before a massive rain storm ran them back to the dock. They used H&H Spinnerbaits with the new Chicken on a Chain Cocahoe today. Troyer Trip Capt.Mikey fished once again with Rudy Troyer today.Rudy is a diehard trout fisherman, no redfish for them today.Since Rudy is part VIKING WARRIOR,he and Capt.Mikey made the run into Barataria Bay.They took a pounding but made it to a reef near 4 Bayou and started putting some trout on ice. They stayed in the bay as long as they could until the storms ran them to the dock. They had 40 decent trout on ice for their efforts.H&H Beetles put the trout in the boat for them. Gillbeau Trip Capt."Old" Mike fished with this crew today. They also ran east and worked the marsh picking away at the reds and drum.I did not get the exact number of fish but it was a decent mess of fillets. The used gold spoons and H&H Baby Bull Minnows to put there fish in the box. We are back at it again tomorrow.Hopefully the rain will hold off and give us more time to fish. Lafitte ReportToday Capt.James has the Sal Lee
Family out for a good day of trout fishing. They left out of
Seaway Marina around 6:30am and headed back south into Barataria Bay.Pulled up to a small reef
and Capt.Mike H. was putting some trout in the boat at a
steady pace.He was in the right spot as we could only manage
a few keepers.A quick move was made to another reef and it
was on.The guys started putting decent trout in the box at a
steady pace.We had 1 male porposie that would run through
the reef but the trout would only shut down for a few
minutes. When that played out another short move was made and
this time the trout were bigger running mostly 18-21
inches. When it was all said and done the guys had 120 good
trout with most of them in the 16-21 inch range on
ice. All trout came on H&H Beeltes 2ft. under a cork
fishing the reefs in Barataria Bay. Back at it with a
bunch of boats tomorrow.Hope the weather gives us a break. We
will see. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's

Lafitte ReportIt was nice to be back on the water today with good friend and business partner Capt.Mike H. and his daughter Cambri.I (Capt.James) took some days off for a mini-vacation to clear my head and get my mind back on fishing. The last 3 months have been really hard for me.We loaded up the Avenger and pulled out of SEAWAY MARINA around 6am and headed south into Barataria Bay with ideal condtitions for a speckled trout slam. After a 30 minute ride, we hit a small island and picked up a couple keeper trout but not exactly what we were looking for.The BULLRED QUEEN, Cambri did catch her first bull red of the day which turned out to be her largest one ever!!! After a few photos a short move was made to a sunken island and it was on.We easily put about 50 decent trout on ice and left the biting.Cambri also landed her second bullred of the day.Not as big as her first one but still fun to catch. With 55 decent trout on ice we decided to look for some larger trout. We hit the beach and put out last ones on ice. These were a little better running 16-19 inches. It was an awesome morning with great company and great fishing!!! With 75 trout on ice we ran back to the north. All trout today came on H&H Beetles fished 2ft. under a cork and tighlined around the current lines in the bay. We have 2 boats open on friday and 1 on saturday. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's Orignal Professional Fishing Team where Fishing is fun. COUPLE QUICK REPORTS...On Saturday July 25th, team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Mr Ron Ainsworth who brought along his nephew Garrett Hipp to do some redfishing. They fished the interior lakes(Bayou Rigolets, Little Lake) and boated some nice reds. The highlight of the day was when Garrett was almost scared out of his boots by the largest fish of the day which swallowed his spoon by the boat. He did a fine job landing the bruiser on a short line. Thanks to Ron and Garrett for another great day on the water! On Sunday, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with Mr Janne Sullstrom from Finland who was in our state for a couple weeks doing some work in the Thibodeaux area. When they arrived at the first stop looking for reds Capt Mike attempted to hand Janne a spinning rod but Janne picked up one of Capt Mike's baitcasters and casted it like a pro. We then found out what an avid angler Janne is and how he fishes at home for Northern Pike. It turns out that this fishing is very similar to how we fish for reds, casting lures at 'em just like we do. The biggest difference Janne noticed was in the power and endurance displayed by the redfish. It was unlike any fish he had ever landed. The guys put a limit of 10 nice ones on ice and released a few for good measure before heading to the dock. It was a true pleasure to meet Janne and see how passionate folks from far away lands are about this great sport of fishing as we are! On Wednesday, Capt Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with John Rucker, Mark Rucker, Jonathan Trapp, and Bryant Marzoni. This crew is a group of local guys who love to fish. John is the "leader" of the gang and is a very good fisherman who catches a lot of fish around the Seabrook Bridge. The size of the trout he has caught there dwarf the ones that live around the Lafitte area. With a stiff west wind blowing they left the marina with hopes of it laying down(forecast was 5-10, it blew more like 15 kts all day) and the trout turning on in Barataria Bay. They made it down and caught a few here and there but the wind never layed down making the fishing tough. They managed 22 keepers before heading north to find some reds. Nine reds were put on ice on top of the trout to help out the catch. We enjoyed the day with this group in spite of the tough conditions and fishing and hope to see them again when things get better. Thanks to all our customers who fished with us this week and made what we do for a living possible! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO LINE. Lafitte ReportOnce again Capt.James had the pleasure of
fishing with TYLERTOWN,Mississippi's TROUTMASTER Jeremy Holmes and
crew.Just like all of the recent trips they spent the night at our lodge and we
fished out of Jeremy's Champion. The wind was blowing out the west and with
zero tide, they made the run south near Racoon Lake.Found a few birds
working and they put a few decent specks in the box. With the waves they never
would stay up long and you blew through them pretty quick. They worked on
them picking up a few decent trout here and there.Could only catch them
under the birds as we did not catch a trout on the islands or submerged
reefs.I quess the lack of tide had something to do with that. They cut the day
short as a couple guys had to drive back to Oxford this afternoon.Back at the
dock the final count was 54 nice trout on ice.Not bad considering the
condtitions. All trout came from fishing the birds using H&H glow shrimp
tails about 2ft.under a cork. Jeremy once again thanks for everything.I
really appreciate it.Hope all goes well with this weeks procedure. If you

Lafitte ReportAnother outstanding day on the water with Dr.Rosenberg and his son Marvin.Today was Day 2 of their annual trip to Lafitte to fish with Capt.James.After slamming the trout yesterday with a 75 trout limit they wanted smaller reds today unlike the bulls of yesterday.Headed down Perot into Little Lake on the westside. We saw a few schooling fish and could only get 2 decent ones to bite that made the box.Ran to the south side and saw a few more schools with no takers. The lack of tide really made them fickle for us first thing this morning. We moved around and found a few that wanted to eat before we hit the monster school. They found a giant school of big reds just tearing up the shrimp on the surface.Picked up our 3 over 27 inches and played catch and release with several more before moving to find some smaller reds to finish the limit.Ran back north near Salvador and picked up our last 2 smaller keepers.Dr.Rosenberg had the hot hand with the bigger reds landing and releasing several in the 28-30 inch range.Marvin did better with the smaller fish today. All in all a very good day with 15 nice reds(full limits) on ice plus 2 puppy drum and releasing a bunch more oversize reds. All reds came from Little Lake fishng H&H Baby Bull Minnows tightlined to the shore. Back at it again tomorrow trout fishing. The deck is stacked against us with on 2tenths of tide but we will see what happens. Lafitte ReportAnother good day on the water in
Lafitte today.Capt.James once again had the pleasure of
fishing with Dr.Rosenburg and his son Marvin on their annual
2 day trip to Lafitte.Today was a trout day. They loaded up and headed
down the waterway into Barataria Bay.The had to stay on the
northern side for a little while as a massive storm was over
Grand Isle and moving
toward 4 Bayou. They stopped at a small island and started
catching plenty of trout.Only problem was 1 in 4 were
keepers. You would catch several 11 inch trout then you would
put a few 14-16 inch trout in the boat. They stayed put
watching the weather and catching fish.A school of bull reds moved through as Marvin hooked
up with a big one. After catching and releasing the big girl
the trout shut down.Hit a few more islands and picked away
at the trout.Dr.Rosenburg hooked something that spooled 130
yards of Power Pro in under 20 seconds.Hit 1 last sunken
island and picked up some decent keepers and Dr.Rosenburg
hooked his bullred.Another red over 30lbs.(bottomed 30lb.
Boga Grip) and after releasing her they got back on the
trout bite.We had to work a little today but the guys had
their 75 trout limit on ice and released 2 good bulls and
pulled loose another one.Tomorrow Day 2 will be a redfish day as they have plenty
enough trout fillets(150). All trout caught at the islands
in Barataria Bay using H&H Beeltes fished about 18 inches
under a cork.Check the photos out as you can clearly see the
baits we are using. If you would like to book a trip with

COUPLE QUICK REPORTSOn Friday July 17th, team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with good friend and customer Mr Dwight Johnston who brought 3 buddies for some fishing action. The rain plagued the guys this day but they stuck it out and ended the day with 17 nice reds for their efforts. All of the fish were caught on spinnerbaits and spoons and a great time was had by all. On Saturday, Capt Helmer had the pleasure of guiding Eric Carter who had his friend Stu and Father-in-Law Mr Ray come along to catch some redfish. The guys fished around the Little Lake area that morning and put 6 reds on ice but it was rather slow. That is until they hit paydirt in one of the deep holes between 2 lakes with shrimp on the bottom. They finished their limit in less than an hour at this spot. Remember, its not how you start but how you finish! A great day spent on the water with some nice guys for sure! On Sunday, Capt Mike met up with good friend and customer Mr Rudy Troyer who did a solo trip. Rudy likes to catch trout and they had a good day boating 50 pretty specks. They worked for 'em but did get that limit in Barataria Bay. Thanks to Rudy for another great trip! On Monday and Tuesday, Capt Helmer guided first time customer Mr Doug Osborn who brought along his wife Tracy and buddy Cameron for some fishing fun. Capt Mike was hoping to show these nice folks what our area has to offer and I think he accomplished that goal. Day 1 was good for a nice mixed bag of fish consisting of 71 trout and 6 reds. On day 2 the guys wanted redfish only and did a half-day AM trip and boated 13 BIG reds on spoons and spinnerbaits. We enjoyed meeting Doug, Tracy, and Cameron and look forward to their next trip. Today, Capt Mike had the pleasure of fishing with good friend and customer Mr Pat Reso who brought his wife Connie and 7 yr old son Chris along to do some fishing. This trip was all about putting Chris on some fishing action and they did just that using shrimp under a cork. Rat reds, small drum, lady fish, hard heads, sting rays and sheepshead were some of the fish that ate up the fresh shrimp. Twelve keeper reds, 1 drum, and 1 nice flounder caught by Connie ended up in the box, though making the trip a success. Thanks a bunch to Pat, Connie, and of course Chris for another great day on the water! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO LINE. Lafitte ReportWet, windy and even some sunshine in Lafitte today. Today Capt.James had good clients Jeter Yates and his son Jay out for a little bit of speckled trout and redfish action. They left SEAWAY MARINA around 5:30am and made the run south to the west side of Barataria Bay.The west wind was already blowing around 15 and a storm was sitting just below Basa Basa.Fished a small reef and picked up about 5 keepers before the rain moved and it was off to near Queen Bess. The trout fishing wasn't easy but they put some decent keepers in the box before finally having to haul butt back north as some more storms were real close. They ran back near 3 Bayou Bay to fish an area Capt.James has not been to in awhile and the redfish were there. They put 4 nice ones in the box and they shut down on them.Moved about 1/4 mile and it was on again as Jeter and Jay finished off their limits and put 2 real nice flounder on ice.Back at the dock they had 43 decent trout plus their limits of reds and 2 doormat flounder on ice.Not a bad day considering the condtitions. All trout were taken using H&H Beetles fished 2ft. under a cork and the reds wanted H&H Baby Bull Minnows tightlined to the shore. COUPLE RECENT TRIPS...On Saturday, Team Capt Mike Helmer had the pleasure of fishing with Paul Donaldson who brought son Andrew, and buddies Steve and Mike for some fishing fun. The guys started out trout fishing and put about 40 or so nice trout on ice at the first stop. They hit paydirt again near a sunken island in Barataria Bay boating 60 or so more bigger trout bringing the total to 100 specks. They hit a couple spots for reds on the way in and caught 6 nice reds and a puppy drum to round on the chest. This has been a typical good day of fishing for us lately in Lafitte. On Monday, Capts Helmer and Beau Weber Jr had the pleasure of fishing 2 boats with Mr Rufus White from the Atlanta area. Capt Weber's guys wanted "big fish" so it was off to the redfishing grounds where they put a limit of big reds on ice on gold spoons. Capt Mike's guys wanted a little of both worlds so they started off chasing trout and put 68 pretty specks on ice before heading inside to do battle with some reds. They put 11 nice redfish in the box quickly before heading to the barn. More satisfied customers who we thank for using our guide service and hope to see again soon! ALL FISH CAUGHT ON H&H SOFT PLASTICS AND GOLD SPOONS ON POWER PRO LINE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK A TRIP WITH LAFITTE'S MOST PROFESSIONAL FISHING TEAM PLEASE USE OUR NEW EMAIL ADDRESS WHICH IS CAPTAINPHIL02@COX.NET OR DROP US A LINE AT 504-689-2006. Lafitte ReportThe fishing still remains as hot as the weather. It doesn't matter speckled trout or redfish. You tell us what you want we we deliver. Thursday July 9th Capt.Mikey had good client Lee Merrit and friends out for a great day 1 of their 2 day trip. They like to do a little bit of both trout and redfish. They left SEAWAY MARINA and made the run south into Barataria Bay near QUEEN BESS and started putting some good trout in the box. They stayed there until it slowed down and headed back north to catch a few reds in Little Lake. They found a few and finished the day with 90 trout on ice plus 6 nice reds.Day 2 would prove to be even better. Frank Davis Capt.Dave Marino filled in for Capt.James as he was still out of town due to his grandmothers passing.Anyway Frank wanted to catch some reds for the FISH AND GAME REPORT and catch them in a easy manner(shrimp under a cork). So they headed over to the west side of Little Lake at the rocks at Clovery. In a matter of minutes it was fish on!!! It was like this for the next 2 hours.Redfish on every cast. They easily got the show tapped. You can still see it at www.wwltv.com. Friday July 10th Capt.Mikey fished Lee Merrit and crew for day 2 of their fishing adventure.Again it was south into Barataria Bay just off the channel. It was trout after trout from the first cast till number 100 was resting on ice just after 9am.To early to head in so back north to Little Lake to pound the reds. They found the school of all schools and easly put their limits on ice and headed back to the dock with both 100 trout limit and 20 redfish limit filling up 2 ice chests.Needless to say they were very happy and we will see them again in October. Capt.Dave Marino fished out of Grand Isle for both friday and saturday with some guys from Baker Hughes for their rodeo.I did not get the full details from Capt.Dave yet but they did catch a ton of trout on both days plus a few reds. Saturday July 11th Capt.James(back on the water after being out of town for a week),Capt.Mikey and Capt.Beau Jr. had the guys from Riverstone Corp. in for a redfish slam. These guys could really fish and it showed with all 3 boats getting their limits of reds pretty easily. They had to pick through the reds because most of them were oversize in the 28-32 inch range.Gold spoons and crankbaits did the damage. Sunday July 12th Capt.James once again had the pleasure of fishing with Jeremy Holmes,Nathan,Derek and shoot I forgot the other guys name as he was so quiet.Anyway, Jeremy likes to bring his Champion down so I can fly under the radar and hide as no knows I am in this boat. The trout fishing started slow with us picking up a few here and there as the tide did not really start to move until around 10 am when we found the motherload of trout at an island in Barataria Bay.We had 4 trout hitting the deck at a time. When it stopped there it was one more stop just off the channel at Cabanash where they finished off their limits trout. All trout have come from the islands and reefs in Barataria Bay using H&H Beetles tightlined and fished 2ft. under a cork. All the reds have come from Little Lake using gold spoons and Bandit Footloose crankbaits. I have some photos to post but am having e-mail problems.I will post them when I can get my e-mail.
