Good evening fishin fans.Helped captain Dude with a group of great guys in from GULF COAST OFFICE SUPLIES.After a stupendious sunrise we proceded to put a nice box of fish at the first stop of the day.Today the fish wanted live bait they wouldnt touch plastics like earlier in the week when the plastics would out preform the live bait.But come monday the shrimp season opens and its on like donkey kong.Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Randy garret sam and walter on the boat they were all good fishermen and blast to fish with.The fish were a little sceptical on eating the bait they would come up and eat the bait but realy slow and the a lot of the fish didnt have the bait deep in their throats like the trout normally do, so we lost quite a few of them at the boat but we still managed to keep a respectable 42 nice trout and 4 red fish with randy catching the big fish prize with a nice 15#4oz whopper red fish.All in all we had a great day on the water with good friends and im looking forward to our next trip together.So untill next time drags screamin and those rods bent cya capt. ron

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
LUCRATIVE LURE!!!
I wrote a “Hooked on Hopedale” piece early in the summer and did return to Hopedale to continue the adventure of fishing with Captain Dude!!!, and to become a quasi deck hand. Yes, I got good and lucky. No longer was I along for the ride. I’d bounce out of bed at
4 a.m., help ready the boat, greet the clients and get “ready to roll”. On board I’d prepare the poles, bait the hook and all the other things that go with it…including catching fish to give to the group.
I’ve caught big fish and little fish. Lots of them. One trip was particularly fun, well lucrative. I was on fish that day. The group was entertained, perplexed by it and having a great time. So a reward was presented by one of the clients. Whoever catched the next fish would win $20.00. What? I needed more of an incentive. So he raised it to $40. If the fish weighed over 5 pounds, $100 to the winner.
Of course, I caught the next fish because of the “lure”. It was 4.5 pounds, but I was happy with the $40 because it was another memory of the innate fun of fishing and the people that make it so.

Now the Winter fishing is ON in The Marsh and Bayous!!!
Remember to look for The Birds are still feeding on live Shrimp while the trout run them to the surface!!! That why Live shrimp work the best under a Cajun Thunder Cork!!!
Best artificial baits are Sparkled Beetles, just cast them out and let sink about 5 feet under the water then, just give a start and stop action while free line and restive!!! Fish ON!!!
Even When the water is low and muddy fish along the shore with Dead Shrimp under a Cajun Thunder Cork and you will land some Redfish for the Grill!!!
This will work all winter long!!!
FYI: Take extra care when running near crab traps corks when the water is low, remember that the trap will be up wind and the rope will be a lot longer laying on the water to the trap. And in the shallow water you may catch the rope in your prop or hit the trap with you prop, Its is better to pass down wind of the crab trap corks!!! Also carry a pair of Dyke cutting pliers on your boat it will come in handy, If you catch a trap in the prop.

Stayed the weekend at Capt Dude's place and went out with Capt Nathan Thigpen on Sunday. Headed out to Black Bay and got on a great trout bite from the very first cast. Using live Campo's shrimp, we caught 73 big specks (1.5 to 4lbs) at our first stop before moving to the shoreline to hunt for reds. Saw plenty, but could only get 3 to bite. All 3 ended up in the boat though. Many thanks to Capt Nate and Capt Dude for a great weekend.

It has been from the Blue Pacific Ocean in California, Fishing, Kayaking, Mountain Bike Riding, and Jogging on the Beach. Then back to the Louisiana’s Bayous Fishing, Eating Great Seafood Just having the Best of Both Worlds!!!
Just so little time to do reports while working on the accommodations, bookings and having all of the fun taking out THE CHARTERS!!! It’s in the Blood!!!
The New Triton LTS now has a “T” Top to get out of the Sun on the Hot Days, or Rain During the down pours. The new Live Croaker Leaning Post Bait Well should also be in. This will be Bait well # 4 in the Boat!!! More Bait!!! More Fish!!!
Since the Live Shrimp and Live Croakers have moved into the Marsh and Bayous we have still been able to fill the box with a variety of fish from Trout, Redfish, Black Drum to Flounders fishing with mainly Live Shrimp and Dead shrimp under a Cajun Thunder Cork!!! Black Bay trips are awesome with 100 real nice trout limited out some times By 9:30 and many Monster Bull Redfish!!! Fishing the rigs with live croakers and live shrimp!!!

The New Deluxe Overnight Accommodations are Available with a 360 degree view of the Marsh and Bayous!!! Now can Accommodate up to 30 anglers!!! The Main Dock is Lighted for Night Fishing!!!

The May Report!!!
Started with moving back into my House!!!
The New Boat made it in on May 4 By Tim’s Marine Thanks to Troy!!!
We all started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound and on the Windy days fished the Marsh and Bayous in search of Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!
The First day out Breaking in the New Boat with Mark and Maria Buras and my Girl Friend Lyn Bystrom!!!
Mark and Maria Buras gave me a framed 1st dollar bill for the new boat charter and a sharp pair of scissors for cutting the spider wire line.
They have always been great friends and fishing clients, loyal and always looking forward to the next trip!!!

94 Black Drum (Great for the Grill!!!)
27 Southern Flounder!!! (18 of them we caught in one day!!! Flounder Heaven!!!))
19 Sheephead (Extra Meat!!!)
13 Sail Catfish (Taste better than Fresh water Catfish!!!)
On the days with no WIND the trips out in Black Bay were awesome with 100 real nice trout limited out some times By 9:30 and many Monster Bull Redfish!!! Fishing the rigs with live croakers and live shrimp!!!
The Days when it was too Windy we all were still able to fill the box in the Marsh and Bayous with a variety of fish from Trout, Redfish, Black Drum to Flounders fishing with mainly Live Shrimp and Dead shrimp under a Cajun Thunder Cork!!!
HOOKED ON HOPEDALE!!! by Lyn Bystrom
I’ve been to New Orleans on business, but my first true experience in Louisiana began when I arrived in Hopedale. Instantly at home and struck by the beauty, in spite of the storm, it was during the next five weeks that I observed resilience among people who were healing from devastation and loss.
Then came fishing and a widespread passion for the serenity and fun of tapping into the paradise inherent to the area. Captain Dude!!! Invited me to join his world and to learn of a culture I had not known and how his life in Hopedale is inspired by the energy of fishing charters and the fullness of sharing his innate ability to find and catch fish, while being the consummate guide. Some say he can smell the fish, but I see a man who is drawn to nature and is at home on the water.
Next, came my first fishing trip with The Dude!!!, Mark and Maria. I grew up in countries around the world where water was nearby, so I’ve been on boats and I swim like a fish. But, this was my first time fishing. And then there was a second and third time…and now I’m hooked. I’ve cast lines and lost bait, hooked my finger, fish on, fish off, popped the cork and tangled lines, all in pursuit of perfection, but sensing it’s in the feel of it, perhaps more than the technique. I’ve been awestruck by the sunrises, peaceful on the water, joy filled by the people and the gatherings, entertained by the guides as they clean fish and talk about the day. And after a hundred times of gazing down Dudenhefer’s bayou, to the right and to the left, I remain in awe of the serenity.
When it was time to return to California, I was both melancholy and grateful for having been able to live such richness. It’s no wonder it’s called Hopedale.

On your Charter we will be targeting Trophy Trout!!! You can't describe the action when you are hooked up on a Trophy Trout!!! The fish is moving it head side to side trying to spit out the hook at the same time it's jumping out of the water!!! When they hit the top water lures it a viscous strike. When catching Trophy Trout!!! On LIVE CROAKERS they kill the Croaker on the first hit then swallow it head first on the second bite!!!

The Gaylord Chemical team had a great day with Captain Kerry Audibert of "Oughttobefishing" out in Black Bay today. Hit our limit of 100 big trout around 9:15 and then spent a couple hours catching a few reds and puppy drum. Thanks to Capt. Dude Dudenheffer for hooking us up with Capt. Kerry. Also thanks to Capt. Captain Dude!!! California Fishing Report!!!
This was a Trip that I gave to my long time California Friend Art Andrew for his Birthday!!!
We went out of Dana Point Californiaa at 6:00am, the boat show was happening this week, when we schedule this day we thought the 100 ft boat would have 25 to 45 anglers max. But it turned out to have 89 anglers.
We head out for some Barracuda after getting Live sardines, and anchovies end up running around in the Fog – Marine layer where they were 100s of Dolphins were jumping out of the water. Awesome Site!!! (Check out the Pictures).
Finally dropped the line at around 8:00am it was Fish On Barracudas, Mackerels, Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Bonito, White Sea Bass, Black Sea Bass (Black Sea Bass are Protected and released) a lot of the fish were under size and released!!!
After fishing several spots one of the young girls on the boat Landed a 40 Lb Halibut makes out southern flounder look like bait!!! (Check out the Pictures).
This was a trip of a Life Time!!! Life is Good!!!

This was a Trip I went to visit some of my fishing friends Patti & Dennis Heikkinen from Marinette Michigan on 8-20-05 thru 8-25-05 just before Hurricane Katrina Hit Home. My brother calls me and told me that I should come home because we were going to get this one!!!
It was a beautiful sunrise a little cold and ruff. The Light house was a great site on the way out!!!
We were fishing in the FINN LANDER Driven by Captain Dennis Heikkinen on board was his wife Patti and I. He had all kind of down riggers and lures that I had never fish with. We were fishing in the Great Lakes and Green Bay. They do things a little different than in Louisiana. By the way they fished with me several times in Louisiana and invited me up to their place and this was a trip of a Life Time!!!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! King Salmon!!!
Plenty for the SMOKER!!!
The meat is just the brightest Orange when its this fresh I even had to eat some as Sushi!!!
We had even caught a Lamp Ray Eel it was sucking the life out of on of the King Salmon that we brought on the boat it was attached to the side (check out the pictures!!!)
we even took a walk in the bay of an Island where the water was crystal clear, calm and Yacht anchor and just take in the sun and relaxation!!!
Their house was on a hill where you could see far miles in there yard was Acres and Acres of corn. The Deer and Turkeys were just walking around in their yard like they owned the place!!! When they let Annie out she ran them off showing them who place it was.
We made a trip to one of the Rivers near by and saw someone catching Rain bow and Brown Trout there!!! (check out the picture!!!)
My brother was right it was going to hit home so after pack up an ice chest of King Salmon and a brown trout it was time to get home.

We Started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound in search of some Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!
The weather was calm with no waves no tide just slick as a Mirror, perfect. We stopped!!! Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! We all were Hooked up on a Trout for 2 to 3 lbs “The Big Girls” (Limited Out by 9:30!!!).
I got one for the Grill!!! A Monster Bull Redfish after a 20+minuet struggling to keep him from popping the light tackle12 lb test, I landed the BEAST, the Bull Redfish all of 35” long and about 20+lbs. This was one hungry Bull Red!!! We were using lures and it did not matter what you thru at them they hit it all.
It great to be Back in Louisiana Fishing and getting the Boat sheds, dock and Comfortable Private Deluxe Overnight Accommodations back up and running.
Special Thanks to Gene and Angela Dugas, George Ricks, Anthony Dudenhefer, Gene and Connie Dudenhefer, Diane Dudenhefer, Chad Dudenhefer, Nathan Thigpen, Nicky Monaze, Stacy Gerici, Burton Melairne, and everyone else that help make it HAPPEN IN just 2 weeks. I couldn’t have made it happen with out all of the Help!!!

It great to be Back in Louisiana Fishing and getting the Boat sheds, dock and Comfortable Private Deluxe Overnight Accommodations back up and running.

Was able to fish with Cousin Captain Anthony Dudenhefer and my sister Diane Dudenhefer Volpe and I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish The Marsh and Bayous for some Speckled Trout!!!
The weather was blowing 30 miles per hour. We stopped at several of my Hot spots we were using Anthony Dudenhefer’s HOOLA SKRITS Lures.
Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! It was a Feeding Freenzee with catching trout two at a time I landed two at a time Three Times and my Sister two at a time one once.
While Cousin Captain Anthony Dudenhefer was even catching Hard Head Catfish on his HOOLA SKIRTS Lures!!! I always hard it was hard to catch catfish on lures; he managed to show us how to catch them ok (See the Pictures)!!! He was so busy throwing the trout in the live well he would not take the time for any pictures with trout but it took a little longer for the catfish off!!! And I managed to get a few great photos. He did take credit for putting us on the FISH!!! I could not call him a DECKHAND because I was on his Boat and He was a Licensed Captain. But he would make a good deck hand. But he did managed to position the boat where he had the best spot and did manage to slip in “my grave” spot where I just caught a fish, a few times. I even have a picture of that!!! I did figure it out when I took a picture of him on the front of the boat.
I knew my sister wore a Bikini for a reason she did managed to get all wet, I give all the credit to my Cousin Captain Anthony Dudenhefer who manage to pass just close enough to a large GAR FISH THAT WAS JUST CATCHING A TAN ON THE SURFACE when we got to close it made a BIG SPLASH that soaked my sister Diane real Good!!! HA!!! HA!!! HA!!! Another Great Priceless Photo oppurnee!!! I did not know fishing could be SOO MUCH FUN!!!

Charlie Smith, Gene Dudgas and I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound in search of some Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!
The weather was calm with no waves no tide just slick as a Mirror, perfect for Black Bay and Breton Sound. We stopped at several of my Hot spots we were using live Croakers on the bottom.
Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! SHARKS Gene was Hooked up on a Shark then I both were in for a fight his 4’ shark broke off at the boat the best thing that could have happened!!! My shark broke off but landed in the boat, a quick picture then back in the water. The lady fish were every where. We had to move in to get on some as soon as we boated a quick 25 the Thunder Storm came in heavy rain. We said time to head in.

David Curtis, Perry Levet, Karl Sternberger, Ray Chatagnier, Randy Sternberger and I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound in search of some Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!
We stopped at several of my Hot spots we were using live Croakers on the bottom. Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Karl Sternberger was Hooked up on a Monster Bull Redfish after a 20+minuet struggling to keep him out of the prop he landed the BEAST, the Monster Bull Redfish all of 37” long and 18lbs. This was one powerfull Bull Red!!!
Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! David Curtis was Hooked up on a Monster Bull Redfish after a 15+minuet struggling to keep him out of the prop he landed the BEAST, the Monster Bull Redfish all of 33” long and 12bs. This was one another powerfull Bull Red fighting in shallow water!!!
Then it was on Trophy Trout, from 2lbs to 4lbs. Everyone enjoyed the light rain that lasted an hour while were fishing it was cooling us off.

Kevin, Donna and son Bill Hurst I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound in search of some Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!
We stopped at several of my Hot spots we were using live Croakers on the bottom. Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Kevin was Hooked up on a Monster Bull Redfish after a 20+minuet struggling to keep him out of the rig he landed the BEAST, the Monster Bull Redfish all of 35” long and about 29lbs. This was one hungry Bull Red!!! Biggest Eating fish of the Day!!!
Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Kevin was Hooked up on a Monster Jack Cravalle after a 30+minuet struggling, he landed the Monster Jack Cravalle all of 43” long and about 24lbs. (Released to Fight Another Day)
Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Donna was Hooked up on a Monster Jack Cravalle after a 30+minuet struggling, she landed the Monster Jack Cravalle all of 45” long and about 29lbs. (Released to Fight Another Day)
This was the Big Fish of The Day!!! On another trip we had 50 Speckled Trout up to 6.525lbs Donna Hurst Winner of 1st place in the Back to Lake Fishing Rodeo!!! (Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation). Kevin Hurst trout was 4.8oz just missed 3rd place by about 6oz. Looks Like she always ends up with the Big Fish of the Day!!!
Then it was on to Trout, from 2lbs to 4lbs. We were using Live shrimp under a Cajun thunder cork in 2’ of water near the Islands.
We caught
1 Bull Redfish (35” long 29lbs)
24 Speckled Trout (2lbs to 4lbs)
2 Jack Crevalle (Donna’s 45” 29 lbs, Kevin’s 43” 24lbs) (Released to Fight Another Day)

He took time out of his busy schedule and drove me to Baton Rouge to look at a new Fishmaster boat to check it out and bring it back to his place on Airline Hwy to install a new 2005 Suzuki 250hp And he had the new motor shipped in. Lionel Dowling made it possible for me to keep all of my charter on schedule he even had the boat ready a day early so I could break in the new motor!!! I have bought motors in the past from Lionel when he had Mid City Marine and was always happy with dealing with him. He stuck to his word when he said he would have the boat ready he took the extra steps to get me back on the Water fast!!!

We stopped at several of my Hot spots we were using live Shrimp and Live Croakers under a Cajun thunder cork in 2’ of water. Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! It was trout from 1lbs to 3lbs.

Water Temp = 80 Degrees
Water = 1’ Visibly

Captain Dude!!! Hopedale / Delacroix Island Fishing Report!!!
Tim Allspach, Kevin Delany, Hank Staples and I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound in search of some Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!
The weather was calm with no waves no tide just slick as a Mirror, perfect for Black Bay and Breton Sound. We stopped at several of my Hot spots we were using live Croakers on the bottom.
Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Hank Stapels was Hooked up on a Monster Bull Redfish after a 20+minuet struggling to keep him out of the anchor he landed the BEAST, the Monster Bull Redfish all of 36” long and about 14lbs.
THEN Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Kevin Delany was Hooked up on a Monster Bull Redfish he landed the BEAST, the Monster Bull Redfish all of 30” long and about 10lbs.
Last ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Tim Allspach had the real fight a Jack Crevalle this one in 2ft of water was one that we had to chase with the boat, we also had a thunder storm approaching but the jack had other plans and keep on fighting.
Finally landed the beast and released to fight another day!!!
We took off quick to beat the storms and we made in with just a sprinkle hitting us!!!
Another Successful day on the water!!!
Then it was on to Trophy Trout, from 3lbs to 4lbs CLASS!!! We were using Live
shrimp under a Cajun thunder cork in 2’ of water.
We caught
3 Bull Redfish (36” long about 14 lbs landed by Hank Staples)(Another 30” 10lbs
landed by Kevin Delany)
31 Speckled Trout (3lbs to 4lbs CLASS)
1 Jack Crevalle (36” Long Released to Fight Another Day Landed by Tim Allspach)

Captain Gene Dugas and his son Jacob Dugas I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou going to fish Black Bay and Breton Sound in search of some Trophy Speckled Trout and Monster Bull Redfish!!!

Wham!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Jacob Dugas Had one pulling out the drag ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! This one was not stopping until the line broke!!!! We had another break off so we took of for some Trophy Trout, from 3lbs to 4lbs.
This is what Charter Captains do on their day Off, GO FISHING!!!
