We lost one of the Best Friends that Salt Water Recreational Fishermen had in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast, T-Mau Claverie from New Orleans passed away this week, he was 83. For those of you that do not know T-Mau, T-Mau was into Fisheries Management before this was cool. T-Mau played a major part in getting the Long Liners to leave the Gulf of Mexico in the 70’s and T Mau was a Founding Member of the Louisiana CCA and Chaired its Science Committee for many years. T Mau knew more about Fisheries Managment than many biologists. T Mau knew how to cut thru the B S when the fisheries managers in the 80’s said our Redfish were not in trouble and he played a Major Part in convincing State Legislators in 1995 that Gill Nets needed to be Banned from Louisiana Coastal Waters. He worked tirelessly to protect our Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, etc, etc. He served four terms on the Gulf of Mexico Fisheries Management Council, was a long time Board Member of the Billfish Foundation, a long time Trustee of the International Gamefish Assn, a long time member of the New Orleans Big Game Fishing Club and a GREAT MAN thru and thru!! T-Mau’s dedicated over 40 years of protecting our fish. He will be missed and the Fish lost a GREAT Friend.
