I have never hunted on public land so I have a few of questions.
1. What are some good places to duck hunt in South Louisiana?
2. Are there alot of people that hunt the WMA's?
3. Where can I find rules about hunting the WMA's?
4. Are all areas in South Louisiana only accessable by boat?

I didn't renew my Duck lease for next year so I am looking for a new lease but want to try hunting the public lands too. Thanks in advance

1. Pointe a Chein, Lake Bouef, Lake Feilds, Lake Long
2. Yes, but it is good to have alot of people to move the ducks.
3. ldwf.com - they also have a list of all WMA's
4. The ones I named, yes

You can run outboards in Big Branch. I have a little tunnel hull boat I fun in there. I think I am giving up on Big Branch though, because there are usually more hunters than ducks.

are there any public hunting areas that are accessable by either 4 wheeler or pirogue? I am selling my mud buddy and boat and wasn't planning on buying another for next year. I may but was hoping to utilize my 4 wheeler more than I did this year. I do like hunting out of a pirogue because it is easy to hide. If there isn't that far of a paddle I wouldn't mind paddling.

You are just trying to convince me to get up at 3AM a couple more times next year aren't you.

Try Lake Ophelia just south of Marksville. It's accessible by foot, 4 wheeler or pirogue. I think it's open one or two days a week for duck hunting. It's federal so you need a permit, do it in advance by mail.

I will have to check into that. Long ways away, but might be worth a trip or two.
