Does anyone know anything about a new line of ice chests that look like yetis, and if they are any good, and how do they compare to Yeti in price and quality? Thanks?

Believe they are named..."Too Cool Ice Chests" by Marpac/Donovan Marine Industries. A little cheaper than Yeti but still expensive. ex: 50qt. around $250. John Castelluccio, Jr.

Thanks John. I have the large Yeti, and I love it, but by the time I load it, I have to have help to move it!

THOSE DAYS of carrying 94, 100, 120 qt. ice chest by myself are LONG GONE!!! Don't know how the hell I even did it with anywhere from 85-140 lbs of shrimp in the chests. John Castelluccio, Jr.

John, look on the aging process as a "Bell curve". In the beginning the first few years progress rapidly, the upward slope of the curve.....one learns to walk, talk, play games and all those sort of things that require strength and coordination....then things level off for many years and we are pretty constant until around 70,we are now on the downward slope of the bell curve. Things change quickly, strength;balance, coordination are all getting worse...at a rapid rate. Some folks do better on the curve than others, for some they never seem to slow down, others fall rapidly.Depends on the individual.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

John, look at it this way....not older, just smarter. Easier to carry 2-50 qt ice chests than 1-100qt chest.

Another cooler company making very high end ice chests is called "K2"...almost similar in price as Yeti...50 qt. right around $249. Is that worth it---HELL NOOOO!!!!!!!!!! John Castelluccio, Jr.

I'm not sure what you get for $250 or more, but I don't see how you can beat a $50, 50qt Maxcold Ice Blue Ice Chest. I put in a 12pack of beer and some water bottles then topped it off with ice. This was at noon on Friday and when I left the camp at noon on Sunday, I still had plenty of ice for my fish.
Richard, I'm not sure what you get with the Yeti that wuold make it worth that much more. They look nice and I'm sure they seal better, but what other features are there that would run up the cost sooo much.

Was at Puglia's today. Happened to see another high-end brand of ice chest named...KODIAC! First negative thing I noticed was the two mold handles sticking outwards from the box. PRICE $249. for 72 Qt. chest. John Castelluccio, Jr.

Broc, with the economy the way that it is, many folks cannot afford a new rig, new car/truck, so they buy an expensive Ice chest as a Status Symbol

I have three Yetis and they are great, but heavy. I hate Igloo coolers. I hear many brag about the ability to buy parts for the igloo's but I never need parts for any others!

For the money, I think the Coleman Extreme coolers are the best. Yeti sold me on their quality, but I can't honestly say that they are that much better. I do like that I can really manhandle the Yeti's without fear of hurting them.

THE TRUE TEST...will be when a bear or in our area-an alligator gets hold of it!!! John Castelluccio, Jr. All joking aside, I did see in one scene of 'Swamp People', there was a Yeti cooler being used!!!

Chuck,I had to look up the weight since you mentioned it. Yeti 50Qt = 25#... Igloo Maxcold 50Qt = 5#...That is a big difference. I gather that they are made better, never break, and last a life time, but do you think they keep ice any longer? Hey, not comparing my maxcold to your yeti, just curious..I have had to replace parts a few times. By the way, I went from ice on Friday to cold water by Tuesday. The ice chest was in shade for the most part of the day.
How is that Frontier doing? I thought that I read in another thread that you were not fishing as much lately. Hope everything is o.k.

I have 3 big Igloos and half a dozen small ones 24 to 48 quart size, but I have a situation that baffles me. I have a 150 quart Igloo that I use for fish in the front of the boat and I have a 100 quart that I keep in the back of the boat for drinks, food etc. and the one in the back of the boat will not keep ice worth a flip, maybe 3 days and the one in the front keeps ice so well that I have to add water to so that the ice will melt and provide a slurry so that I don't have bent fish to clean

Ed is your 100 the green sportsman edition, because they do not hold near as well as the 150 max cold does!
I also have 2yetti's, a half a dozen igloos and 1, 50 qt too cool by which yetti does make for marpaq to put their name on! the yetis are far superior in parts in quality, but I personally do not find they hold ice longer, in fact sometimes shorter!
The Parts for igloos are ridiculously cheap in quality, and are steep in price for plastic! Coming from 220 lb man who used to lift 375 in bench press and squat more than 500 lbs, the yetis are a pain in the rear end to handle even with another person! They start out heavy before ice and xtras. The kicker is they do not break!
The trick to getting the roto molded ice chest to hold ice longer is to acclimate the plastic before putting ice in! They seal soo well and are soo thick with such heavy plastic it takes twice as long to kool them down because of the heavy plastic. If not acclimated to a reasonable tempature, I have found the chest will actually hold ice for shorter periods because it takes too long to cool down from the start. If done properly yes they may hold Ice for a few more hrs longer at best!
What I have found myself doing the most lately is replacing my hinges to stainless piano hinges on my igloos and also putting the marpaq rubber latches on them when the crappy ones break. There twice as easy to handle and cool down at a fraction of the cost of the roto molded ones.
If you got the chedda and don't mind breaking your back than get the best of the best if not the igloos and Coleman's will serve the same purpose if taken care of!

All three of mine are white. I actually noticed the problem between the two during winter fishing in Cocodrie.
