Took a few calls, ( Capt. Don Claimed OSIF with plan with wife and Grand daughter) but Capt. Don and I finally got the details approved for a trip to the ICW. Quick launch at Fort Pike had us casting lemonhead under a popping cork at about 1pm Friday. Wind was blowing pretty steady but out the south ended up being good for some nice drifts thru a lagoon to find some nice specks. Not much talent required cork fishing, throw it out and when it goes down JERK, Capt Don started with a black and chartreuse curly tail grub on a spinner and boxed some nice specks and Bass, I followed suit when a BIG OLE green trout hit the floor(Capt. Don). Water was down 18” from past trip so we were limited as to where we could pursue the green things, so we just enjoyed the open water drifts . Read an article from Capt. Chris about fishing grass lines so I concentrated on that, my problem was not landing IN the grass instantly covering the lure with snot grass, 1 foot out from the grass was the answer to grass or fish.
Tide was falling and the water temp was 68, (I Think), clarity was good (easy 1 ft visibility. SSE wind 10-15 , cloudy to partly cloudy skies, air temp warm to cool when riding. Lot more to talk about, BUT, tired of typing(hunt and peck style) always good when I get to fish with Capt. Don, looking forward to some payback trips to the Biloxi Marsh soon. Finished the day about 4:30pm with ,
10 specks 12-16”
7 Bass 12-14”
1 Red 24”
A few throw back specks and reds.
(I’ll double check size when cleaning)
