Mark Boudreaux has long known that there was something special about the Golden Meadow/Leeville areas. With endless marshes, bays and coastal passes, this part of South Lafourche Parish draws thousands of anglers, hunters, and travelers annually.

But he realized several years ago that there were very few comfortable places to stay overnight for these outdoors enthusiasts.

That's when he envisioned building motel/lodge-styled rooms, with all the conveniences and comforts of home, plus a catchy name - Boudreaux's Condeauxs. Today his lodges offer guests fully equipped, air-conditioned accommodations that are designed to fit the needs of the outdoors enthusiast.

"When I started the business it was just a few rooms and very few customers," said Boudreaux, who owns Boudreaux's Condeauxs with his wife Tanya. "Some people would stop in and see us, but we didn't get nearly the customers that we needed to make money."

Since it was one of the few lodges in the area, the word spread quickly from Golden Meadow to Fourchon. After a couple of years the Boudreaux's decided to advertise in a local outdoors magazine. And they had some modest success. But their business didn't really begin to pickup until they realized the power of Rodnreel.com.

"We knew we needed to get more exposure," Boudreaux said. "So I started asking around. You know, conducting my own surveys to find out where everyone was getting their outdoors information."

After speaking to neighbors, local anglers, travelers and anyone he could find, the answer was almost unanimous. It was Rodnreel.com. Recreational anglers and even commercial fishermen said they always logged on to the website to get vital information, such as weather and water reports. The amount of information they could glean from Rodnreel.com, was virtually endless.

"I did my homework," Boudreaux said. "The numbers as far as hits exceeded anything out there."

According to Mike Lane, publisher and co-owner of Rodnreel.com, advertisers on Louisiana's number one website get more bang for their buck.

"Since we started Rodnreel.com in 1995 and since then we've built up quite a readership," Lane said. "Our latest numbers show that about 80,000 different people every week read Rodnreel.com."

Lane likens his Metairie-based website to a magazine or shopping mall that essentially sells space.

"It's all about traffic, or circulation as they'd say in the magazine business," Lane said. "We bring traffic - a lot of it."

Posting reports regularly is the secret to making the site work for you, Lane said. But the Boudreauxs are increasing their own exposure through a series of contests.

"The prize is a chartered fishing trip and an overnight stay at Boudreaux's Condeauxs," Boudreaux said. "To register just go to our home page and fill out the registration form."

The Boudreauxs plan to give away four fishing/lodging packages over the next four months.

"It's sure helped us," he said. "We're getting a lot of new inquiries - a lot of new business."

And the Boudreauxs are currently expanding with more rooms and facilities.
