The hurricane missed us, so it was time to bring the Bay Flat Sr back to her home port, (Our Disney World known as Delacroix Island) and make ready for the upcoming fall fishing season. Needed a first mate to assist with the  launching and trailering of the Bay Flat Sr,  Big Andrew had volunteered to help drive the boat while me drove the trailer and parked it in our lot across street at the slip.

We decided to make a fishing trip too, to see what the area looked like, and weather we could find any elusive Silverwonders hanging around our spot numbers.

    • Me could not sleep. Went to bed a 12:45 AM, set the alarm for 5:10 AM, woke up with the alarm buzzing loud at 5:50 AM, and knew me going to be late for our 6:00 Am meet up at Big Andrew abode in Lakeshore Estate. Post re: catching at dock really pecked out our curiosity, could it be the Silverwonders made their way in already
    • Loaded up the FORD transporter and we were on our way
    • No wildlife sightings along Hwy. 11 or 90
    • Passed on Waffle house
    • Passed on McDonnell
    • Not many boats on Hwy
    • Not many boats in gas stations
    • Not many boats at launch
    • Passed on Last Stop food store
    • Check point Able (Canal at junction) water level up 6-8”
    • Check into Bravo (Reggio Canal) water falling, good sign.
    • Home of the dock covered with water about 3”, y the time we came in water as below dock about 2”.
    • Backed the Bay Flat Sr down at Lionel’s dock, did it with ease, Big Andrew at the helm, backed her down right off the trailer, took no time to load the Bay Flat Sr up, Yamaha Dream Machine fire up with one turn of the key.
    • Paid for launch, got 2 pounds of dead bait for Big Andrew, he need a confidence builder.
    • Off to spot # 64 to start our day of  fun

    • Sunny & clear, could move in, noon
    • Mild temps, with wind and clouds it was doable without red button popping out
    • Wind 4-6 mph from the east, perfect.
    • Water level up 8”
    • Water temp 85F
    • Water clarity on a scale of 1-7 was a 7, best looking water of the year. Had a dark color, and clear, you could see the lure down 1 to 1 ½ feet, loved it.
    • Very tail end of a rising tide, tide started to fall and was still falling when we left at 12:30 PM.
    • Bait all over the place
    • Did not see nay birds diving, but they had a lot of them sitting on the water in Grand Lake.
    • Not much grass
    • Did not see many boats out and about, had 2 fishing Grand Bay in the middle.

    • Be safe
    • Have fun
    • Bring the Bay Flat Sr back to her home port
    • Put some run time on Bay Flat Sr. & the Yamaha Dream Machine
    • This be me daily therapy for ALL me aliments
    • Gather Intel for future trips, and to share with fisherperson, (on rodnreel.com) to help assist them in their choice of areas to fish, lures to use and presentation of same to the elusive Silverwonders.
    • Fishing rodeo Friday, needed to see how the conditions might be for same.
    • Find a spot # with the five fundamentals / criteria of catching:

    • WIND AT YOUR BACK: (No problem today, east wind had no impact on our fishing presentation, just a little cross wind, but nothing we could not handle.)

    • MOVING WATER: (Tide falling all day, just the right speed to move our lures along the bottom, all we did was give it a little twitch every now and then, keeping a tight line all the time.)

    • WATER CALRITY: (Best I’ve seen this year, and most of last year, looking good.)

    • HOLDING FISH: (Not a problem we stayed in one spot all day, action was steady, and had no reason to leave.)

    • PATIENTS: ( None needed, it was on, on, on at our second stop, me and Big Andrew liked the action today.

    • Anchor up cast & retrieve slowly along the bottom, with a twitch every now and then, tight lining…………………………………Done this all day

    • Oak River Troll (ORT)………………..DID NOT TRY

    • Reverse Oak River Troll (RORT) ………..DID NTO TRY

    • Oak River Skim (ORS) ……………DID NOT TRY

    • Cork ……..1 BITE

Spot # 64, turned the Bay Flat Sr north for a quick smoot ride home, open her up to out run rainy clouds coming our way.

    • Lived to fish another day
    • 15 NMR Silverwonders 1 throw backs
    • 12 throwback reds
    • 8 Stripe Bass
    • 1 Crab
    • 2 Bottoms
    • 1 Shoreline
    • Many tangled lines
    • 1 crab trap
    • Food & drinks as provided, had none, water & snacks only as provide by Big Andrew
    • Spending the morning with one of the best fisherperson me know, Big Andrew just turned 80, and still ticking.
    • Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one

Big Andrew just coming off retirement, has not been fishing that much, he had a good run with the reds, & Stripe Bass, and even lead in the shoreline category, but the elusive Silverwonders seem to be able to elude his efforts all day. Me think me might have taken the honors today, but there is always tomorrow.

Conditions are perfect, water clarity is great, and we now have moving water, combine all this together and you should be able to catch a few. All you need to do, “Is Go to Know”.

One of the hardest decisison of life is weather to motor away or try even harder

    O & A:

Is there a size limit, and / or a creel limit on Stripe Bass???????

Hope to be back at them in the AM, hope to find me camera so me can take pictures, hope to be ready for HBA fishing rodeo Friday, until then:

    Good Fishing
