It is a popular narratvie in the media that coastal Louisiana is in a state of emergency. What the data actually shows is that over the past 10 years there has been about a 200 square-mile net gain in total wetlands area. 70% of the CRMS stations in the delta region are showing net gains in elevation.
In short – the rate of natural accretion is greater than the rates of subsidence and sea level rise.
